Currents of Time

This is a pretty random entry. Some real life stuff, some fandom stuff, some musings on things, and a couple random facts about myself that I'm not necessarily ashamed of but am kind of embarrassed to admit. Possibly not in that order.

la la la it is almost 3 am way past time to go to bed


... wait, did I create this "cartoons forever" tag or is someone messing with me? I am legitimately not sure. (The perils of allowing outside tag creation, haha.)

So I guess an IMB computer won Jeopardy. I'd meant to watch, but then I forgot completely, so I got the story from my brother, who apparently did watch? My father was excited about it, because there's a reasonably decent chance some of his work is in that thing. (He doesn't know where everything he designs / builds goes, but he's very good at what he does and I guess not a lot of people do what he does, so...?) Anyway, that's exciting, and maybe a little alarming. XD

(And also, this weirdly reminds me, but apparently one of my coworkers - and I mean, not just in the store, but in my department - she works two departments - won the national bagging competition, which... apparently exists! Good for her! And then the newspaper people were in the store yesterday interviewing people about her, but I managed to escape their notice 'cause we had someone working the cake window. Ha!)


So I tricked my roommate into buying me Final Fantasy XIII figures instead of paying me back directly (I say tricked, but it cut something like 10 dollars off what she'd have owed me otherwise, so really we both won). And they arrived... at some point in the last few days! So now I have Fang and Vanille and I went and bought Lightning, 'cause I found her for a little cheaper than the usual price, but she's still wandering the postal service or something. But! Okay, I have heard some bad things about some of the FFXIII play arts figures, but these two look so awesome. *_* Their faces are not super weird or anything. My only real complaint is that, unlike previous play arts lines, they didn't really bother with heights, so they are the same (actually, and it might just be how and where I have them standing, but it looks like Vanille is actually a hair taller than Fang). BUT WHATEVER I CAN DEAL WITH IT. (The shininess of Fang's hair actually bothers me more, I think. It is REALLY, REALLY SHINY.)


TODAY WAS MY DAY OFF AND I spent half of it asleep, that was kind of depressing. BUT I did finish my taxes! And run a few errands around town! And even got a little more Kingdom Hearts in. Not as much as I wanted, but, eh. Win some, lose some.

At the beginning of next month, Mom and I are driving over to New York to visit my brother (again!). Though this time, hey! It's in March! Instead of in February. We've pretty much done everything to do in Rochester at this point, though, so maybe we'll all go exploring. (Canada was suggested, but Mom's getting her passport renewed right now, so that's a no-go.) But I am still excited to be doing something. I get some kind of wanderlust or something, I just get so antsy if I don't go anywhere for too long - and okay part of it's just WINTER AUGH, since it does get worse this time of year, but still. And visiting California relatives apparently doesn't do anything for it (though, uh, since that wasn't even 48 hours on the ground, I guess I can't say I'm surprised). BUT YEAH. ROCHESTER. OR MAYBE THE AREA AROUND IT. WHOO. Only two more weekssssss.

I've been to Borders twice in the past week, even aside from the entire manga section being pulled (I'm placing money on it being because of the people who sit and read entire series and/or then steal the entire series. Thanks a lot, guys) and so leaving several vacant walls, the store is still half empty. And the Star Wars section looks like it hasn't been stocked in a few years, and while there's something vaguely flattering about the thought that they were keeping the books in just for me, it's also a bit annoying because they don't have anything. I suppose this is what the internet is for, though. Hello, Amazon. Let's be friends.

When you're standing in one spot doing the same tedious task over and over again for literally hours at a time (assuming you can last that long), you get to talking about strange things. Aniko and I have discovered the secret behind the apparently endless supply of moat carp in Knightswell and the reason Prince Trion's hair is so appalling... among other things. It's like posting IM conversations, only in screenshots.

I have a phlebotomy test tomorrow which I need to go review my notes for, but apparently Top Gear is on BBC America at midnight. Though I could watch pretty much any episode I want uncut and ads-free at any time, which is a nice, convincing argument for turning it off. I can't stand ads as it is, when shows are designed to have them taking up part of their time.

Though it looks much nicer on that screen than it does on this one. As soon as I finish this entry, I'm leaving.

I've got a friend coming to visit for the weekend. She gets to sleep on the couch. HOORAY FOR COUCHES TO SLEEP ON. I will make her observe our feeble town that badly wants to be a city. It calls itself a city, but only because it's never seen a proper city. How exciting!

And, I wish my body would work with me. I'm trying to adjust to Daylight Saving and it just refuses to cooperate.

Beats me. Page won't load fully, regardless. OF COURSE IT IS ONE OF THE IMAGES I NEED TO SEE THAT WON'T LOAD AT ALL. Christ.)

I TRICKED ANIKO INTO COOKING TONIGHT. And I only had to intervene once. successssss. (See? You can cook! The building is still standing! And the final product was completely edible!)


So, I know Pyramid Head is freaking terrifying and right up there on the list of things I never want to have the extreme displeasure of sharing a room continent planet universe in general with, and when he's got the great knife, he can one-shot you, which is distressing...

And braving the sewers to invade PH's little room of death has, you know, never really been high on my list of things to do, but Aniko decided what the heck and ran into him a few times before finding the door (and then a few more times before finding the way back out, haha), and, okay, it's slower to attack than, you know, Eden, but I guess it's also about on par with the damage level you can get from that, so, hey.

Anyway, we ended up playing pretty much the entire rest of the game with that damn knife equipped, and it's kind of awesome being able to one-hit anything that dares to approach (makes for slow and grating progress, too, though, so if there was going to be a lot of running, Aniko'd usually unequip her 'safety blanket').


BY THE WAY HEMMING ON BLACK FABRIC IS STILL A BAD IDEA AND SHOULD STILL BE AVOIDED BY THOSE WISHING TO PRESERVE THEIR VISION. Also, I spent over two hours scrubbing at one (only one!) of the blinds in my room (there are three). It is still not clean. WHAT THE HELL IS ON THESE THINGS. WHY WILL YOU NOT DIE. These are my tedious, mind-and-sight destroying tasks. I do not recommend them.


Oh, 4x06 was the rerun tonight? Huh. I would've rewatched that one.

(I went to get her attention by slapping the door frame of her room, and at the instant before impact it occurred to me this was probably a bad idea, considering, you know, SURVIVAL HORROR GAMES, but then my palm hit the frame and I heard her chair go THUNK.)
