So I'm moving on Saturday, right? So, as I have said before, I need boxes! Lots of boxes, maybe. So I've been walking to everywhere nearby asking, hey, got any boxes I could have? And they have all been telling me, no, sorry, they just went out / we gave them to someone else / we don't get useful boxes here / excuses, excuses! So I've been getting kind of frustrated and stressed, wondering where I am going to get boxes to pack my stuff in.

...Guys.

I work in a grocery store.

So today I went and talked to my manager and the produce associate and now I have ALL THE BOXES. (All being nine in this case, but, eh.)

Also, unrelated, I've had a couple people ask me about this, so here we go: I am moving but my address is not changing! I am still at the same PO box! The box is paid through January, 2012. So, if anyone else was wondering... now you know!

...AND THEN I DISCOVERED I HADN'T ACTUALLY UPLOADED ANY FFVII ICONS YET I will fix that later.

BUT GUYS, GUYS. My brother is the best person in the world.

And also he made this for me (the two may or may not be related AND NO ONE WILL UNDERSTAND THIS):

Image! )

*___*

I must print it and put it over the real one.

... MAYBE THAT WILL BE MY ICON.

Also I registered for BotCon or something.

BUT MOSTLY I AM EXPLODING WITH AMUSEMENT AND GLEE.
The neighbors are, not joking here, shoveling their front yard.

Into our yard.

Over the hideous fence they put up.

... guys. GUYS. This is small-town New England. In winter. IT SNOWS HERE.

Now I hope we get another storm that dumps 3 feet of snow. I wanna see them try and dig their lawn out from that!

In unrelated news, might(/seriously hope to) be going to Disney World this June partly on my parents' funding. Mom and I've been talking for a while about wanting to go back to Epcot, and now! ohohoho, awesome. I LOVE it when life goes along with me.
If all goes according to plan, I will be mailing everything tomorrow! I... I must say I am sorry in advance to one of you. Y-you will probably know who you are when what I am sending you arrives.

(Sometimes I think I might be a bad person, and then I do things like this and confirm it but I can't entirely say I regret this. So actually I'm not entirely sorry.)

IN OTHER NEWS, since I didn't mention this last entry 'cause I forgot somehow, I - I. omg. I know it's still waaaay to early to make any assumptions, but eee! (On Cybertron?! SO AWESOME. Also, it seems that we'll be getting toys - or at least toy - based on it!)

(I nearly dropped my copy of Game Informer when I got to the article in it, since I got my copy before seeing the thread at the Allspark. WHAT? IS THIS REAL?) (The subtitle of the article is, "The hunt for a good Transformers game travels to the robot homeworld" and I admit I laughed a bit too much at that "good" part.)

Hopefully it is better than the movie games have been. (I've heard the second game was better than the first, but I couldn't be bothered to buy it.)
When I moved into town, I signed up for the local e-mail thing. Mostly it's people trying to get rid of things or figure out where their stolen bikes have gone, but today's had something that made me laugh.

'FREE TOASTER.' )

Meanwhile, in less amusing events, after a relatively arachnoid-free autumn, spiders are popping up all over the place again. SORRY, GUYS. BACK OUTSIDE WITH YOU. It's not like it's actually cold out, yet, anyway. Seriously, get out of my kitchen.

And my living room.

And my bedroom.
Was talking to my brother last night, he was telling me about his current Knights of the Old Republic 2 files. He's playing through twice, side by side, one good and one evil file.

Today: "my evil kotor2 file got corrupted"

Well, naturally.

Related IM convo silliness I am preserving here for my own amusement. )

Sooo. I have no idea how to conclude this post.

... part of me really wishes the tags appeared in the order I added them.

Edit:
CRAP. I just noticed that it's October. NOW I HAVE TO HURRY UP AND DECIDE IF I'M GOING TO TRY NaNo THIS YEAR. aaaaaaaaugh.

Comes up with the strangest ideas, that one.

FFXI had maintenance and an update today. SE changed things at some point to allow us to download the new files before the servers were actually back up and running, which was nice of them. It used to be that we'd all end up camping the [Play] button and then all crash each other out and break the game as we all tried to download several thousand files over the next day or so. Now we can at least get some of that out of the way before the game's back. So after maintenance started, I logged in, downloaded the files, and logged out. Whoo, files.

And then I went around, did some homework, did some reading, did some random tidying, ate some food... the usual.

Maintenance was extended two hours (nnnot that I was waiting for - okay fine there's a quest I was on that I'd really been enjoying the story for, and I really wanted to finish it to see the ending...) (IT WAS DELIGHTFUL AND WONDERFUL AND ALSO FULL OF THOSE ABSURDITIES WE'VE ALL COME TO EXPECT FROM SE THAT STILL ALWAYS CATCH US OFF GUARD SOMEHOW), but things are back up and running now, and people are busy being slightly horrified by SE's choice of items needed to increase the gobbiebag size (oh god why), and it is only now when I am sitting at my computer checking things I would normally have checked much earlier in the day (like, oh, my e-mail?) that it occurs to me that somehow my brain equated "FFXI is down for maintenance" with "there is no internet." I went and checked a couple pages, was disappointed in the lack of updates, and then immediately though, 'well, of course no one's updated. The system's been down all day.'

I wonder if I always do that, or if this is just a random exception.

Speed edit:
Oh god the post-update/maintenance drama is always some of the best stuff in the world. ♥ XD

Also. There's someone on the forum who has a signature that always makes me both laugh and swear simultaneously.

I'm losing count of these references, Squeenix.

main screen... )

ORCS, MAN. All this time I thought they were just speaking broken basic, but no! They speak meme! (orcs: the organic Junkions of the future?*) Someone take the internet away from them.

* This reminds me. In the hospital, they've got one of those wrist support gel-pads at one of the computers, and on the thing, it says "ERGOTRON."

I like to imagine Ergotron is a highly neurotic Transformer who can't understand why his fellows can't make things more, you know, ...ergonomic. If he thinks it is wrong, he destroys it (or at least tries to), because for whatever reason my brain decided right away that he is an unlucky Decepticon. He probably turns into a highly adjustable chair or something. And ends up dead somewhere after blowing up the wrong computer console.

Yeah, I don't know.

(TUESDAY WAS A REALLY SLOW DAY IN THE LAB.)
So, aside from giving me a few reminders as to why I don't like the college up the hill and am glad I don't attend there, Jon Stewart event? HILARIOUS. He went at the governor quite a lot in the beginning, which was both fun and funny. He also kept talking to the signers, which was funnier than it should have been, since they'd be translating the question he was asking rather than answering and... I dunno. IT WAS FUNNY.

Then I went back home and logged onto FFXI with the intent of doing something, I think... Actually, I think we did do something (I... Ani and Nabi and I were all in a party. BUT WHY?), but I can't remember what.

Oh! Wait, yes, okay, we did a fight for Nabi, but we didn't get the drop she wanted. Okay. Okay, got it.

Anyway... )

I decided to catch up on Transformers comics, and I'm pretty glad I did! I had coupons for 40% off, so I got two TPBs for close to the price of one, and I'm actually enjoying them a fair amount. I know I shouldn't be surprised or convinced by the hate people've been throwing at them lately, but sometimes I forget how cracked out fandom can be. I was going to say people who's opinions usually line up with mine were hating them, but after I'd typed it, I thought about it and, no, while I generally have some amount of respect for these people, they usually don't agree with me.

Of course, the series does have a fair amount of problems (for example, the list of continuity discrepancies on the wiki is kind of horrifying and hilarious all at once), but the sheer, violent hatred I'd been seeing seems a bit out of place. Anyway, though, the art is really pretty.

Earlier today I went with my mother to a Japanese festival thing, which sounded really cool, but ended up being kind of lame. Oh, well. Got red bean paste out of it, so obviously this was not a complete loss.

...Most of yesterday, I was really grumpy (I'm chalking it up to not getting enough sleep and then being woken up multiple times that morning). Today, I still have not had enough sleep, but I was set on "ridiculously happy" until around three hours ago, when my sleepiness caught up with me. Now I'm just tired. I don't need to be up all night waiting for a monster to maybe spawn, though, so hopefully I'll get a decent amount of dead-time.
Jecca, driving to work. It's a beautiful day and there's not a cloud in the solid blue sky. The sun is somewhere overhead, completely out of her field of vision.

She thinks, genuinely confused: But I turned weather effects back on last night.

Then she nearly crashed the car in horror.

In FFXI, when you disable weather, you not only turn off actual weather - rain and snow and wind and the like - you turn off sky effects. No clouds, no stars at night. There's still a sun and a moon, but the sun's often directly overhead and not in your field of vision. I play with weather effects off most of the time, because some effects, especially dust storms, make my computer lag up. Lagging is not something I can afford, as timing is very important to a thief. I turn them on for short periods of time when I know I won't be in places with EXTREME WEATHER or if I'm not planning on partying. Reference shots of sky, 11 am (game time): weather on, weather off.

I cannot believe I actually thought that. I just... I've never done anything like that before, completely misplacing reality in such a manner. I am both mortified and appalled.
Time wasting on YouTube. Almost six minutes of my life that I should probably feel I've wasted, but don't. They aren't words anymore.

There are some very strange and very, very bored people in this fandom. 4:42 - 4:50 is one of my favourite scenes ever, and the rubber ducky gets a cameo at 5:04.

Of course, now my spare few minutes are over and I have to go back to working. It was worth it for the entertainment factor.
Bizarre happenings in the neighbourhood.

Yesterday, I ventured downstairs to find the nice people across the street had a tropical bird problem. Their front lawn was infested with flamingos. This was very strange.

It only became stranger when we learned that all twenty-plus plastic brine shrimp-eaters had appeared quite rapidly between 8 and 8:30 that morning without anyone seeing it happen. The first is when a man who lives down the street walked past, the second is when my mother left for church.

This morning, they were gone again.

Most perplexing.

... What strikes me the most about this is that, years ago, the boy who used to live across the street and I would walk home from school. There's a bit of a speeding problem on the road my house is on, so sometimes, after an especially lead-footed moron would fly past, we would discuss ways to trick that sort into slowing down some. One idea was to obtain many plastic pink flamingos and plant them along the entire length of the road.

It's Thanksgiving, so we've got some relatives over. Last night, I slept in the extra bed in my brother's room, since it "wouldn't be proper" to ask either of my female cousins to spend the night there. Whatever.

We played DDR all night and - while I haven't completely lost it - it's been too long and I am terrible at it again. I can manage on Standard, anyway. (We also did a bit of Guitar Hero, which I am awful at, because my left pinky is, er... weird, and doesn't like bending to hit either the blue or the orange key. So I either play on Light or I get a bad score.)

But, anyway, the extra bed is against the wall on the left. My bed - and every bed I've slept in for the last... er, ten years, at least - is against the wall on the right. I woke up this morning when the cat came in making noise about something (probably all the weird people in her house) and I'd forgotten where I was. I went to move to check the time and... fell completely out of the bed!

Didn't get hurt, but knocked my glasses off the table and had to recruit my brother to find them, and I had to put all the covers back on, since they came off with me. And I nearly knocked over the massive pile of boxes of paperwork that are currently being stored up there.

WHAT AN ADVENTURE.

(And speaking not-really-adventures: annoyance. The PC version of the newest FFXI expansion set was delayed until tomorrow. Which means I either have to go out on "Black Friday" - well, I have to go out anyway, for work - or I have to convince my parents - who are also going out anyway, but for actual shopping - to pick a copy up for me.)

Hooray for San d'Oria! In the Crystal War Revisited event, across all of the servers, San d'Oria ranked first for number of crystal shards collected! YAY!

Windurst placed first on Phoenix (my server), but the cumulative total was the one that mattered, and we pulled first. Windurst citizens are probably angry, but I am just glad that San d'Oria hasn't fallen as far as they have on Phoenix on every server.

San d'Oria, when I started playing (at the North American release) was always on top of conquest and the likes - we ruled Vana'diel! But now Windurst has overthrown us. We'll probably never get them back off, because Windurst has the most people allied with it... But it was fun while it lasted.

... What kills me, looking at the total scores, is that on every server but TWO, Bastok scored dead last. Oh, Bastok. Why are you always so awful? (Other than the fact that your city is ugly and you enslaved Galkas and... okay, yeah.)

I can't help but wonder vaguely if SquareEnix knew Bastok was going to ... be terrible for ever. Because with one letter change, Bastok is given an entirely new - but tragically accurate - name. Lastok. You can't warp San d'Oria or Windurst that easily.

But whatever! For the next few weeks, at least, San d'Orian citizens can teleport between the cities! So exciting! (YES, IT IS EXCITING. STOP JUDGING ME.)

The Official Results

Er, I'll stop spamming LJ now. Sorry.
My brother was talking about PSPs and the groups of people who make mods for them. One such group consists of a bunch of Russians who rarely post and don't ever say much. The Russian Underground Hackers.

Just say it.

There's just something funny about it!
