ALL right. Three months ago I made an entry fully planning on returning shortly to make another one, but then.... I dunno, I was scared. There were only a few issues left, and I didn't want to say nice things that would then be immediately unearned. But this is it - the last issue of my wonderful robots comic. So in lieu of the original entry, please enjoy this readalong live-blog. Warning for image heavy entry to follow. Spoilers basically immediately.

I'm not readyyyyy )

What a trip.

JAMES ROBERTS IS GOING TO BE AT BOTCON

JAMES ROBERTS IS GOING TO BE AT BOTCON

hyperventilating
uh. Wow. Thaaaaat was... not what I was expecting. INTENTIONALLY VAGUE TO AVOID SPOILERS? idk who all's reading this and whether or not they're caught up.

... nope, that's all.

shut up. it's my journal. i can make 4 sentence entries if i want.
More Than Meets the Eye, kindly stop doing unkind things to my emotions. My poor little heart can barely stand it.

:(

(Is anyone reading this series? I don't really follow Robots in Disguise, except for when I see people in the discussion forums making too many vague references to it - so I only know the general gist of what happened recently, but More Than Meets the Eye is kinda like the best thing ever. EVEN WHEN IT'S BEING HORRIBLE.)

... I need a DESPAAAAAAIR icon.

There is a kitty on my lap and she is sleeping and snoring ADORABLE and her whiskers are twitching and I have completely lost sensation in my right leg but that is okay because KITTY. (HER LITTLE NOSE IS TUCKED UNDER HER LITTLE PAW AND HER LITTLE TAIL IS WRAPPED AROUND HER LITTLE FACE AND EEEE.) (Actually, she's kind of big - not referring to weight, just she is not small - as house cats go.)

I would like to get up an change the radio (they're talking about the oil spill - of course they are, what else do they ever talk about these days? - and listening to it kind of depresses the hell out of me), but... there is a cat in my lap. You may have picked up on that from the first paragraph, though.

Also, I didn't know NPR turned over to the BBC in the middle of the night. I guess it makes some sense, I mean, it's 4 am over there, which is morning, which I... guess is a more reasonable time to be up and broadcasting for some people? I would rather be up at midnight. What do I know.

Time is moving really... strange this week. Since Saturday! It has gone so slowly. Today was the closest it's been to normal, but it's still dragged on and on. Like, it's only midnight, but I feel like I've been off work for way longer than I apparently have.

MOSTLY I AM BORED RIGHT NOW. Hopefully my cat gets up soon so I can get to bed, but tomorrow I am not even working, and so will have nothing to dooo. Someone save me.

Maybe my brain will unlock and I will write stuff. MAYBE I WILL GO AND GET MY NOTEBOOK ARGH I JUST REMEMBERED I HAVEN'T TYPED ANY OF THAT STUFF I WROTE WHILE IN CALIFORNIA UP YET. (This is unlikely to happen tomorrow. I will probably stay here and wish I had someone to kick me in the face to write this stupid crap, instead. Or that I could find the desire to write this at all because I am just not feeling it at the moment due to STUFF. Maybe I will. Uh. Vacuum, I don't know. WHY AM I EVEN MAKING AN ENTRY. UGH JUST SHUT UP ALRE)

...Shut up, self loathing, I have a kitty in my lap and she is adorable, and you are not.

Guest list for BotCon makes me happy. (TWO WEEKS!) So do some of the potential at-con toys. SG RAVAGE?! MUST. OWN.
Internal calendar has stopped being a day ahead and is now just confused. Is this a step up? Step back? Step sideways? ALSO I keep forgetting Monday is Memorial Day and the post office will not be open so no, I cannot mail this. Frustration.

Anyway, I accidentally got dragged around to lawn/yard/garage/rummage/barn/INSERT TERM HERE sales by my parents this weekend! It was not a waste! For example, we found an awesome sewing machine! And I got a neat map of Lake Champlain (or, uh, half of it, at least. The top part is on another piece of paper that they did not have)! And some thread, and a dumpling steamer. And some other random stuff!

Also, last weekend, for twenty-five cents, my mother found me this! So okay, he's not got... a fair bit, actually (no accessories... or arms, haha), but whatever. The body is in great shape! Maybe I will try to collect all the missing pieces. It can be my project! Or. Something!

Now that I have turned over to robots, I am going to tell you: the All Hail Megatron Coda story "Everything in Its Right Place" is delicious and amazing and I want more. TOO BAD I CAN'T HAVE ANY. Moving on to Wreckers now, which I am fairly confidant will also be amazing. And slightly more death-filled. But then I will be all out. Unless I decide to actually start reading the ongoing. Is anyone following that? Is it better than it looks and sounds to be? Do you stop noticing the weird new faces eventually?

(Also, for a good example of Things You Don't Expect To Find On The Transformers Wiki: Daleks.)

And speaking of Doctor Who, a couple things in this Saturday's episode made me unreasonably angry. Aaargh. *punches everyone*

I can't think of a way to bring this one up. OH WELL. I had this secret/comment thread brought to my attention! And I laughed and laughed and laughed and then went and wept a little. Oh, that damn dolphin.

THIS IS NOT THE ENTRY I CAME HERE TO MAKE but I guess that will wait another day.
jecca_mehlota: (I (might have) had dignity once.)
( May. 22nd, 2010 11:32 pm)
I totally had this idea for a post to write up earlier today! While I was at work! And busy! And not in possession of paper to write the idea down on!

I totally do not remember what it is anymore!

SO INSTEAD, I will inform you that IDW (haha! I didn't even notice until just now when I went to check the publisher... these are the guys currently running Transformers comics) is printing The Last Unicorn comics! Only the first one (of six, total) is out so far. It is awesome. If you like The Last Unicorn. Or just unicorns. Or good stories. Or AWESOMENESS. You do like awesomeness, don't you?
So, no, it wasn't just that whatever I am allergic to bloomed early this year. CONFOUND IT ALL.

Local comic shop. Very nice. Very, very useless, if you don't read the big sellers. (In their defense, since they still have comics from Devastation, I can kind of understand why they are reluctant to get in new comics that aren't for special orders, and I'm not interested in a subscription.) So I am finally giving up and ordering the first issue of Last Stand of the Wreckers off of SHADY INTERNET SITES.

They aren't really shady, I just felt like saying that.

its the allergy meds okay leave me alone

Hopefully they arrive sooner rather than later, but for now I'm going to stare at the page and wonder if my story-completionist really, really needs the All Hail Megatron TPB volume 2. (I have 1 and 3, and have read nothing else since, partly because of not having had money for it, partly because of not being able to find it, and partly because the soft reboot [yes, it is, because - see next sentence - you just can't have that much inexplicably different and call it anything else. Other than LAZY AND STUPID, which I kind of doubt is what they're going for, here] kind of annoyed me because I kinda liked the setup they had going. And because that's an appalling number of discrepancies, even for this fandom.)

And next maybe I will pass out in my chair.

...Yeah, that sounds good.

Also, here is an adorable picture my brother linked me to. (I don't know where it comes from originally.)
So, aside from giving me a few reminders as to why I don't like the college up the hill and am glad I don't attend there, Jon Stewart event? HILARIOUS. He went at the governor quite a lot in the beginning, which was both fun and funny. He also kept talking to the signers, which was funnier than it should have been, since they'd be translating the question he was asking rather than answering and... I dunno. IT WAS FUNNY.

Then I went back home and logged onto FFXI with the intent of doing something, I think... Actually, I think we did do something (I... Ani and Nabi and I were all in a party. BUT WHY?), but I can't remember what.

Oh! Wait, yes, okay, we did a fight for Nabi, but we didn't get the drop she wanted. Okay. Okay, got it.

Anyway... )

I decided to catch up on Transformers comics, and I'm pretty glad I did! I had coupons for 40% off, so I got two TPBs for close to the price of one, and I'm actually enjoying them a fair amount. I know I shouldn't be surprised or convinced by the hate people've been throwing at them lately, but sometimes I forget how cracked out fandom can be. I was going to say people who's opinions usually line up with mine were hating them, but after I'd typed it, I thought about it and, no, while I generally have some amount of respect for these people, they usually don't agree with me.

Of course, the series does have a fair amount of problems (for example, the list of continuity discrepancies on the wiki is kind of horrifying and hilarious all at once), but the sheer, violent hatred I'd been seeing seems a bit out of place. Anyway, though, the art is really pretty.

Earlier today I went with my mother to a Japanese festival thing, which sounded really cool, but ended up being kind of lame. Oh, well. Got red bean paste out of it, so obviously this was not a complete loss.

...Most of yesterday, I was really grumpy (I'm chalking it up to not getting enough sleep and then being woken up multiple times that morning). Today, I still have not had enough sleep, but I was set on "ridiculously happy" until around three hours ago, when my sleepiness caught up with me. Now I'm just tired. I don't need to be up all night waiting for a monster to maybe spawn, though, so hopefully I'll get a decent amount of dead-time.

Devastation! And, according to the ads in the back, number 5 will also be out this month. Which is good, because that means I don't have to feel like I've been waiting forever (shut up, last issue was in November).

... This is a very short commentary, which is too bad, because I'd actually like to say things about this one (like, "Is it really this hard to get Ratchet's head coloration right?" and, "Haha! Wreck -n- Rule! AWESOME") if I weren't currently so caught up on something. (Longer than 3's, though, as I didn't make any comments at all on that one.)

SPOILER - and I don't mean the car-part )

I spent four hours today in a "basic Algebra review" class. It was a complete waste of time! Though, it was kind of a strange experience to be the smartest stupid - there's a typo for ya student in a class involving integers and fractions and... other such things.

Actually, it was really easy.

Brain, why couldn't you figure this stuff out back when I was actually taking the classes?
I haven't been collecting the second arc of IDW's Beast Wars comics, though I may buy the trade paperback when it's released. I bought the first of their profile books, was decidedly unimpressed by the problems with it, and decided to pass on the rest of the run. I have been checking reactions to them, however, and it's only serving to lead me to believe I made the correct decision in ignoring them.

However, it amuses me to no end that Prowl - sane, logical Prowl - has what may, in fact, be the most convoluted continuity of any character, ever.

Prowl II's page on the Transformers wiki is kind of mind-breaking (read "Origins and Complications").

. . . Here I feel that need to state that, if you have just read those pages, and if you've read any of the stories I've dubbed part of "Alt-verse" (and anyone who has read "GT" - which, I suspect, is the only one anyone has read - has read Alt-verse), despite the characters having their Alternators/Binaltech appearances in some works, they don't follow the Binaltech continuity. Prowl is, in fact, only Prowl.

EDIT:
From BBTS:
Next wave of movie Robot Heroes will contain Optimus Prime vs. Barricade,
Ironhide vs. Dispensor, Battle Jazz vs. Megatron, and AllSpark Bumblebee vs Starscream.

Dispensor.

Dispensor.

The Mountain Dew machine that was animated by the Allspark. I am so, so happy.
I, again, grabbed the newest issue of Beast Wars: The Ascending, and, again, am not entirely sure why. I haven't read it yet. It'll have to wait, because I also got the one I drove into town for.

Devastation 2 )

fdshjkdg now I need issue 3. Wow. Infiltration and Escalation never saw me this eager for the next issue.
Things Jecca disapproves of: the comic book store's got a new guy making their deliveries (so, okay, UPS has a new guy making deliveries), and he's always late. Last year and even this spring, the store would have their new comics (things arrive on Wednesdays) out for sale by 3 in the afternoon, at the latest. This was good for Jecca, because her Wednesday class got out around three, so she could grab her comics and go home. Now the comics don't even arrive until 3:30.

This is bad for Jecca, because her Wednesday class gets out a bit early, anyway, and she simply cannot justify waiting around two or three hours for the employees to sort out, record, and shelf everything. So now she has to either wait an extra week for her comic fix or make an extra trip into town later in the week. (This week, she went with the later, as she had to go downtown for stuff, anyway.)

So!

The main storyline of the Transformers comics is back! And you thought things were a mess before. Mostly Nonspoilery Comment consists solely of, "Oh, frag."

DEVASTATION )

I grabbed Beast Wars: The Ascending issue one (though I'm not sure why. I didn't think The Gathering was really that great) as well as the Sourcebook (finally! Though the art's a little weird for some of them), but those are a lot less interesting to me, and, really, what's one going to say about a Sourcebook? "Character bios." "IT TELL ME"?

Though they have Manterror, who is never not going to delight me, even if my Manterror is completely different from the one present in these books.

haha! Robot Heroes Jazz and Thundercracker are mine! I knew it was a good idea to take the long way home and stop at Toys "R" Us! Glee! This line is entirely too adorable and I kind of hate Hasbro for making it, because I keep buying them. I am never going to be not broke ever again. Ugh. Useless!

Also picked up the Galvatron Spotlight comic. Hooray! It was good, yes. Sideswipe was in it! And Hound! ... Galvatron, too, obviously, but that one hopefully went without saying. (Ratchet and the two remaining humans had a cameo!) I might write one of my longer things up later.

Have given up on TF: The Game for ever now. It is too frustrating to justify playing. I just do not care enough to put up with the missions.

More thunderstorms. The awesomeness has worn off a bit by now, and I am slightly sick of watching the dog contort himself to get into the tiniest crack in the house to try and escape the noise.

I got a new thing of floss from the dentist's. It tastes really good, but I am not sure what is it supposed to be. There is no label.

A couple of Jehova's Witnesses came up to the door the other day as I was trying to leave for work. An older woman and, I don't know, her grandson or something. We were all very polite, and I informed her that, no, this was just a house, not a series of apartments or something (it's not that it's a big house, it's just that half the buildings on this street are full of apartments), and we all went about our merry way after she told me all about their "Follow the Christ!" meeting or whatever going on... somewhere at some point, but I really didn't care and wanted them to go away because I am going to be late for work. I, of course, did not say that, as it would have been rude and snappish. Still. Weird.

Great and wonderful news! Because I only missed one class, and because all of my work is done and handed in, I do not have to go to the extra class next week! I'm all done assuming I pass the paper I handed in tonight! I am so happy! I will miss everything about my psychology class, though.

To celebrate classes being done, I bought a comic book! This is a lie, as I bought the comic before finding out I didn't need to come to class next week, but it sounds good. Or something.

Transformers: Escalation 6! )

And now the story goes on summer vacation, too, right? Augh! The wait will be brutal! But, well, I will have OMG TF MOVIE and BotCon to tide me over, so I suppose I will be just fine. In fact, I suspect that once I see the movie on June 28th, I will enter a strange sort of fandom-induced high and not come down for... a while. I apologize in advance for the insanity I'm sure I will inflict on everyone.
I spent a good twenty minutes following a black Porsche 924 S on my way into town for classes this afternoon. It had a rim around the plate that told everyone close enough to read it that it was not the driver's "daddy's" car. I was amused. (And, er, also rather surprised. Pretty car versus State of Much Road Salt. Though I guess now that the weather's warmer people are taking their nice cars out of lockdown.) It was a very pretty car!

It did not make up for the announcement in English class that we had to go an extra week on account of the teacher missing class due to her brother dying. (Apparently he was some well-known reporter or something.)

I am so frustrated I could grind my teeth. In fact, I think I will. *grar* I really do not like this class. At least the work is all done. ...and I do feel bad for the teacher. I like her fine (despite what the rant I posted about her the other day may imply), I just don't like the class.

But on to better things. New Transformers comic!

Spoilers for the Kup Spotlight )

People keep telling me that they think I am amusing when they give me feedback on my presentations. This surprises me.

There are frogs making noise outside! Yay.

Also. Am cleaning keyboard. It is amazing how well some of the keys I've cleaned are now working.

Edit:
Thrust got new wings. I am more in love with his paint job. (The wings do look lovely, though!)

( Mar. 29th, 2007 01:24 am)
Oh, man! Once or twice every month, I run down to the comic shop between classes on Wednesday (I have ten minutes to make a fifteen minute journey! Yay!) and buy the latest installment in IDW's universe, and every month after I get home, I only want more. These comics are not long enough.

I picked up the Soundwave spotlight last week. It was delightful! I am not going to talk about it tonight because I want to go to bed, but I want to rant about this first because I love it so.

Escalation 5 )

Next issue is the last in this series. The next run's called Devastation. I'm so nervous! What are they going to do next? Don't kill anyone!

Also, there is a skunk living under the barn! It is fearless and likes to wander about the driveway and around the back porch. I am less fearless and keep finding myself parking very near the road and using the front door.

Working on story. Schoolwork is impeding the process, as I have three final papers/projects due next week. Ugh.
Rather than waiting for me to have time to think on it for ever probably entirely too long (not that I overthink and overanalyze everything I have to do), Mom's decided that I "should do England for International Day. [I] could talk about the Pax Lodge for [my] presentation."

... I look at the above paragraph, and all I can think is, 'you can tell I've been writing my essays, can't you?' Must stop quoting. Argh.

Anyway, so I spent all five of my free minutes today trying to come up with famous women that the girls (they're going to be maybe 8 to maybe 14) will have actually heard about. The list is currently limited to Rowling (for Harry Potter, because everyone who isn't me reads those books), and Queen Elizabeth. I have given no thought to the poster with random facts or what I will bring for food, because I have no time. It will be a long week, won't it? Or possibly entirely too short. One of the two.

I jokingly composed my speech over dinner. It went, "So! I'm sure you've all already heard of this place! Probably best known to you as the home of Harry Potter and where everyone speaks with an accent that sounds absolutely nothing like whatever it is you're attempting right now. Yeah, I hear you there. ...Also, Time Lords and crazy men who talk about cars. But never mind that."

Dinner in town on Wednesday, assuming nothing comes up. I was all excited for all of fifteen minutes, when I thought it was next week and that the Soundwave Spotlight comic was coming out on Wednesday, and, yay! I'll have time to run down and buy it because I don't have my night class this week! Oh, well. Maybe we'll get out of my afternoon class early next week! (And for the week after that? I'll be late for my night class before I go home without Escalation 5. JUST TRY AND STOP ME. I WILL END YOU. ...WITH PAPERCUTS, as all I will have on hand will be my class notebook.)

I am ready to eat this textbook. It is so boring, and I've nothing else on hand to destroy it with. I would go on a fanfiction binge, except I've found myself unable to locate anything decent that I've not already read at least three times. Woe. I obviously need to expand my fic-lurking areas. Or join a forum somewhere. Or something.

So, this morning in my dreams, I (and a bunch of other people) visited Silent Hill. Of all places! We were chased by Pyramid Head and his clones, and then I nearly fell through the floor and had to walk across cardboard without making noise. Distressingly enough, it's been one of the more coherent ones. This Psych of Dreaming class is going to make me insane.

I am never going to get this music back out of my head. What was I thinking?
jecca_mehlota: (STRESS!)
( Mar. 1st, 2007 12:36 am)
Transformers: Escalation #4 came out today. Finally. They enjoy making me wait until the end of the month, don't they? And no, I don't know why it would be better if they released these at the beginning of the month. I just know it would make me happier. Somehow.

Or something.

Talk cut for Spoilers and all-caps. ALLCAPS OF RAGE )

And now I have to wait until March 28th for the next installment! Augh! At least we get another Spotlight next month. Soundwave, hooray!

Picked up a copy of Stranger Than Fiction Tuesday (you know, the day it came out. Patience is a virtue, and all that), but I've not had a chance to watch it yet, and I'm probably going to pass out as soon as I finish typing this (which means I'll probably edit it tomorrow and actually put in some, you know, content or something) and hopefully not wake up for like a year or something. I do not know why I am so tired.

I had a dream last night/this morning that it was raining Dark Eco and the Metal Heads were attacking BotCon. There was a Sarlaac involved somehow, and I'm pretty sure I saw a booth-thing that may or may not have been blue and may have been either a phone booth or a police box. It certainly couldn't be bothered to make up its mind, so I don't see why I should be expected to know. I do think most people would say I need to lay off the fandoms for a while, at any rate. (I would say they are wrong!)

Edit:
OH YES I ALMOST FORGOT! My brother comes home for a visit today! His bus might not be in yet (who can ever tell with buses?), but it is coming. Oh yes. yey!

Also, dinner at the hibachi tables tonight! Birthday dinners are awesome, regardless of how late they are. A BIRTHDAY DINNER WITHOUT THE BROTHER IS NOT A BIRTHDAY DINNER WORTH HAVING. Or something.

What? My brother is awesome. Shut up!
I spent several minutes debating which icon to use. Ultra Magnus? Ratchet and Wheeljack? The twins? Obviously the twins won out. I don't feel like picking on Magnus, Ratchet's getting lots of time in the spotlight, and I miss Sunstreaker and Hunter. (Of course, I don't have Hunter in an icon.) Plus, trouble is on the way. Yes, this paragraph was entirely necessary.

The Ultra Magnus Spotlight came out last week, but I just picked it up yesterday, along with Escalation 3. I've been organizing these things by release date, so I'm going to prattle about Magnus first.

...Spoilers, obviously. Tangents abound.

TF: Spotlight Ultra Magnus )

Now the main story. Again, spoilers.

TF: Escalation 3 )

... Apparently the Ultra Magnus and Skywarp two-pack is out. ARG TARGET. Why are you not in my state? I suppose I should be grateful it's at least in my country. In theory, I have someone out of state who is willing to look for and buy me one. Yay.
.
