hahahaha holy shit our chimney was just on fire

We're fine! My parents put the titanium in there for a reason. Nothing exploded. It's going out. Slowly.

And now I'm sitting watch to keep an ear and eye on the fireplace (hey, saves me from helping in the kitchen) (though I'd rather have a nice, warm fire). (Chimney fires are really, really loud.)

So, uh, wow. That was exciting.

(IT IS STILL CRACKLING AUGH)

...Anyway, uh, here's Megatron singing a Christmas carol. Yay!
MY DAY. My GOD.

Started off bad, anyway, even if you ignore the recurring things like my having trouble sleeping, weird dreams when I do sleep, and the evil ankle trying to trick me into cutting my leg off. But, finally, I headed off to work - and got out of the house late so I didn't have time to buy a new bus pass, so I had to walk! And I was wearing my normal footwear, not, you know, something intelligent like, oh, my waterproof boots.

So I walked two and a half miles through a tunnel of snow and slushy water and my poor feet were sodden and sore by the time I finally arrived to work and was able to at least get the socks off (nothing to be done about the soggy shoes, but at least my wool socks had absorbed the worst of it).

And then I was pulling my stuff out of my jacket's pockets to stick in my locker and WHERE IS MY PHONE and oh god there is a hole in my pocket, so I called the apartment and Aniko said, no, your phone is not here! Cue panic. She very nicely said she would trace my path to work, looking for the phone, though!

I searched my coat again - just in case - and then called Mom to ask her to keep her phone on (she leaves it off a lot) in case anyone found mine and decided to be nice and dial "Mom" or something.

Well, Aniko showed up a bit later, no luck finding my phone. So I am getting really upset! Because, holy shit, there goes my easy access to all the important dates and phone numbers I use, as well as the better alarm clock. And, of course, because I am a broke-ass fool, I totally can't afford a new one anytime soon, since I decided I needed a DS!

I tell Aniko to pick out something she wants and I will buy it for her at the end of the night (as a "thank you for walking all the way over here"), and we try to reach Mom again to ask her to call my phone so Aniko can look for it while she heads back home (... to pick up my waterproof boots and bring them to me so I can CRAWL HOME ON MY HANDS AND KNEES LOOKING FOR THE DAMN PHONE), and IT IS ALL VERY UNHAPPY.

So then like an hour later I finally get on my break and, I don't even know why, I decided to ask at the service desk if anyone had turned in a phone AND THERE IT WAS. WAITING FOR MEEEE. I guess they must have found it in the parking lot or something (I noticed it was missing before I got inside the store, so it had to have been outside somewhere). Lord knows how they found it, with all the snow and slush out there - Aniko thinks all the calling she and my mother did probably led to someone discovering it. And then they did the AWESOME THING and brought it inside and handed it over so I could find it again!

So, that crisis was resolved. I think someone out there just likes fucking with me or something.

And now it's snowing again, and BASICALLY TODAY HAS BEEN KIND OF SHITTY AND STRESSFUL, and the phone drama just made it all worse, so hopefully tomorrow is less so!

And then, without warning and for not apparent reason whatsoever, Jecca had a massive hysterical breakdown, couldn't calm down enough to work back out of it, and ended up arriving an hour late to her exam, thereby missing it completely.

... Fortunately, her teacher is the greatest person in the world and is letting her take it later in the week.

But for now she's actually listening to some advice and trying to chill out a bit while wasting time on AIM. But no one is online except her brother, so she's not really talking much. How boring.

Edit:
This just in: Square Enix endorses chocobo prostitution.

My brother wants to breed Storm Trooper, since chocobos you get from breeding tend to have better stats. I asked where he'll get a female chocobo for that, and he said he might trust the bazaar sellers who claim to have level 10 stats on their chocobos.

So you pay them to use their chocobo to...

Choco-whoring.

I shouldn't be surprised. These are the people who came up with FFVII's chocobo system, after all.
Jecca, driving to work. It's a beautiful day and there's not a cloud in the solid blue sky. The sun is somewhere overhead, completely out of her field of vision.

She thinks, genuinely confused: But I turned weather effects back on last night.

Then she nearly crashed the car in horror.

In FFXI, when you disable weather, you not only turn off actual weather - rain and snow and wind and the like - you turn off sky effects. No clouds, no stars at night. There's still a sun and a moon, but the sun's often directly overhead and not in your field of vision. I play with weather effects off most of the time, because some effects, especially dust storms, make my computer lag up. Lagging is not something I can afford, as timing is very important to a thief. I turn them on for short periods of time when I know I won't be in places with EXTREME WEATHER or if I'm not planning on partying. Reference shots of sky, 11 am (game time): weather on, weather off.

I cannot believe I actually thought that. I just... I've never done anything like that before, completely misplacing reality in such a manner. I am both mortified and appalled.
