Sooo. My brother! He almost exclusively runs Linux. He's got an actual copy of Windows, but he also has a Windows emulator, which is mostly what he uses to run things that don't work on Linux. He is pretty proud of himself and his virus-proof computer.

Last night, he sends me a file, which I attempt to unzip, and my computer pitches a fit because lolvirus.

It's just some stupid thing that took like 2 minutes to clean up (well, okay, more than that, and I'm running an extra check now just to be sure), but that has not stopped me from allcapsing at him with I BLAME YOOOOOOOOOUs and the like.

If I were a worse person, I'd never let him live this down, hahaha.

Meanwhile, after he sent me a clean version of the same file (??? neither of us have any idea how this happened) and I watched/read it (it was a .. what are they called, video novel or whatever with pictures and whatever. Inspired by his suddenly remembering it's November and I do that weird writing madness thing this time each yeah), I complimented him on his choice of pictures for the Goobbue army because, haha, one of the people his story was about (well, one of the members of the group of people) was front and center in the shot, and he was confused.

Turns out he had googled it. He hadn't even realised it was our server, haha. What are the odds of that?

Also, I cannot believe I failed to register this when I read this dialogue in-game, but my server has officially made Eorzean history. Excalibur was the first server to report the strange past time of people hopping on their Goobbue mounts and standing in a line all around the city of Ul'dah aaaand...

Relevant link!

(The image on that page is the same one he used for his little story.)

(IF YOU LOOK IN THE BACKGROUND, YOU CAN SEE ME.)
New computer has been mercifully problemless so far. It's running Vista, so everything looks wrong and I haven't got it all figured out yet, but I disabled the UAC and a bunch of other stuff so it no longer asks me if I want to allow everything.

It wasn't annoying me too much until I noticed it didn't remember things, and I'm not forgiving enough to put up with having to tell it YES I AM SURE every time I try to open anything.

I AM, HOWEVER, MOST SORROWFUL ABOUT MY LOSS OF WALLPAPERS. :(

COMPUTER BLAHBLAH )

Enough of that. November! You and your WRITING, man, I dunno. I like NaNoWriMo. I don't think I've ever really made the 50k word goal, but I've never minded. I can't write like that. I can't toss my inner editor aside and just write. I think it's really awesome that some people can, and do, but I cannot. I look at November more as a month where I say, look, self, just write something, yeah? And that works. I do write more in November than I do every other month of the year (...possibly combined). I don't always finish what I start, but it gets me writing, and that's my real goal for the month.

As I said perhaps more coherently to someone in an Instant Messenger conversation this afternoon: I dunno, I'm amazed by people who do write 50k in November (or more!) but I can't do it. I can't just write 50k words blindly. I do like using it as a starting point, though. IT IS NOVEMBER YOU WILL WRITE not, It is November and you will write anything and everything because OMG WORDCOUNT (or should that be, "it is the eleventh month of the year, which is to say, November, and you can and will write both and and every single that occurs to you throughout that month because hitting your word count goal of fifty thousand words is entirely more important than anything silly like reason or sense or even coherency."?).

So right now I've got about seven WIPs I've been poking around at, and I'm at a dead end in all of them, so maybe I'll try to start yet another one tomorrow, or maybe I'll just sit on them until I come up with something. BUT WRITING! Yay, me!

YES.

NEW LAPTOP IS HERE. IT ARRIVES ON A DAY I HAVE NO CLASSES!

The delivery man was his usual ninja self and I almost missed him, but clearly I did not. \o/ So excited!

Hm. There was something I wanted to post about, but for the life of me I cannot remember what now.

Oh, well! Running away to get it up and running now. :D :D :D :D

by the way have I ever mentioned how much reinstalling FFXI completely sucks? IT COMPLETELY SUCKS.
Have I mentioned it? Did you know there was a time you could type "Valkurm" into Google and in the search results, it'd pop up, "Did you mean "HELL"?" Wish I'd saved a screenshot so badly.

Supernatural's 'Houses of the Holy' versus Jecca's memories of Doctor Who's 'Blink' .... FIGHT! I don't care that none of them were weeping. I'm just glad that whole scene in the room with the statues wasn't too long.

Also, I've discovered, entirely by accident, that I am able to take screencaps! Bwaha! I thought FRAPS only snapped from FFXI, but I opened my screenshots folder to sort them to my external hard drive and there were, somehow, Supernatural images in with them. How confusing! I'd seen FRAPS take shots from WinAMP, but that had only happened while I was playing, and I assumed it was because I have WinAMP set to always be on top. I have not been playing FFXI and watching Supernatural at the same time (man, that'd be hard), but I have been talking over IM, and I have, on occasion, used the \ key, which is set to save an image.

(A bit relatedly, and amusingly, my mother made extreme woe-faces at me this evening when I informed her I had decided to stop waiting for her to have time. I assured her I'd be willing to watch it with her, anyway.)

Unrelated, that Ecco is featured on TV Tropes under the video game section of Nightmare Fuel (search the page for Ecco, as it's quite a ways down) amuses me so much. Also is a bit of a relief, because IT'S ALL SO TRUUUEE. I swear I wasn't the one to add it. (Oh, it actually has its own page, too! Cool.)

That Silent Hill isn't really listed on that page also amuses me, though obviously for very different reasons.

Edit:
Re: 'Born Under a Bad Sign' at about the halfway point: Saaaaaam. *weeeeeeeep* Clearly it must not be what they're trying to make us think it is, but I WEEEEEEEEP.

(I mean, I am despairing for both of them, but considering the potential/problem here...)

Fastest delivery ever.

...... you know. Boxes get in and, with only a few exceptions, boxes get out.

... I HAVE A PLAN. Haha.

Now I need to find a suitable box.

But first, more racing. )

Kaboom! )

... OBLIGATORY TEXT OUTSIDE THE END OF THE CUT.
...

I think the computer is clean.

If I never have to do that again... It's enough to make one want to swear off the internet.

I can't believe I made the Spyware wallpaper go away. And the pop-ups have stopped. And I took the liberty of installing Firefox on his laptop while I was there.

I think I might go to bed now. I deserve a long nap.

aww, my parents love me!

Er, no. I do actually know they love me.

But tonight we (shut up, it's still February, anyway) went out for dinner to celebrate my birthday! And it was very tasty. Also, I got a box in the mail! It contained an external hard drive! IT IS HUGE. Not... not physically. It's actually small, there. But 250 GB!

That's almost five times my laptop. That is MASSIVE. Wow.

... Wow. I can... I can clear up my laptop a little! (I may or may not have been rather stupidly running with only a little over 2 GB free.) Without putting everything on CDs!

Also, hooray! ANIKO IS BACK. NOW I CAN ALLCAPS AT HER OVER AIM AND BE CONVINCED TO TAKE ON STUPID WRITING IDEAS. WHY IS THIS A GOOD THING?

I need to stop SPEED EDITing my posts:
BotCon's put up the free exclusive, since they've sold out of the Shattered Glass sets (and are now offering the 2005 Primus sets, which they still have, hee) and want to give the people going for that at least a look at the one This Year toy they'll get special for going with the expensive set. It's Ricochet! Nifty.
