WHAT HAVE YOU JUST DONE TO ME, SUPERNATURAL.

30 Days of Video Games

Day 27 - Most epic scene )

SO I AM HAVING A STRANGE DAY, emotionally-speaking. I feel a bit like I am lagging, like someone says or does something and there is this bizarre pause between when they say [whatever] and when I respond to [whatever]. Is this the pills? It is probably the pills. I don't like this. It's like my brain has to think of how to respond to things rather than just doing it.

I saw a gray, fluffy cat sitting in a window on my walk home and stopped and stared for a creepy amount of time, but it was almost 9, so I did not bother the people, but it made me really sad.
I have only met one directly, but you know those people who faint dead away at the sight of blood? Even just a little bit, like from a minor nosebleed? I have always wondered how they go through life. I mean... what do you do if you have the nosebleed, and seeing blood makes you pass out? These are the things I wonder about when I stand at the sink with a washcloth smashed against my face.

TODAY'S MEME ANSWER IS TERRIBLE AND DEPRESSING, by the way.

Day 09 - Saddest game scene )

I was clicking around the internet this morning trying to find if there's a set of official lyrics for "Answers" (that song I was rambling about in yesterday's entry) out there yet (it seems not, still) and ended up in a forum thread where someone linked to this trailer video and, DAMN IT, SE, I want to play that game! Where are you hiding it? :<

I mean, I presume the storyline will get there eventually, but, man... (What really bugs me is that I CAN JUST SEE THE EDGES of a really, really interesting and great story buried in there somewhere, but it comes soooo slowly and just, there is so much wrong with that game still.)

WHATEVER, I STILL HAVE VANA'DIEL. (VERSION UPDATE IN MAY WHOOOO finally getting the server merges out of the way and reopening the worlds, geez.)

... haha, not-so-funny story about the upcoming merges, which I am not sure I have even mentioned, partly because of this story! Phoenix was spared any of the drama last year 'cause we had one of the highest populations, but after the merges, we had the highest of the lowest populations... So we're on the board this time. S'UP, TITAN.

Anyway, most of us are irrationally attached to our servers in FFXI. That's important for you to know because, the night my cat was lost and I was stuck in New York freaking out and being upset (it didn't help at all that when my then-roommate called to tell me what was up, she was in what I thought to be either drunken or sobbing hysterics and unable to speak, so once we'd finally narrowed it down to SOMETHING BAD, I was like, Jesus, she's simultaneously screaming and hyperventilating, was someone KILLED, did the building burn down, has she been raped??? So I was already freaking out before we finally got to the "I LET THE CAT OUT AND HE DISAPPEARED" part), after I'd done what I could (which was basically nothing), I went clicking around the web on my PSP trying to take my mind off things and of course the first damn thing I come across is SERVER MERGES and there is Phoenix on the list and I was like ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME, FIRST YOU TAKE MY CAT AND NOW YOU TAKE MY SERVER and was one untied shoelace away from complete mental meltdown for a few seconds. Fortunately, I did a little more reading and discovered Phoenix is fine, we're FINE, we are just getting company.

BUT YEAH! That is my story about the upcoming server merges! Exciting.

I do not want to go to work tomorrow. It is a long day and those are lonely and sad, and it is a Sunday so I will have to walk, possibly in the rain, and I am feeling unappreciated by my manager, who is writing shitty schedules.

Whine.

Day 07 - Favourite game couple )

… wow, I will try to be less ridiculously allcaps-y tomorrow.
If we do not have hot water by the time I get back from work tonight, I am going to pitch an epic temper tantrum. IT'S BEEN A WEEK. WHY IS THIS SO HARD. The guy's down in the basement hammering away at the thing. Supposedly we need a new valve this time.

It's not like I even have that much room to complain, since I spent the weekend out at my parents' place (it was pre-planned and not related to the ONLY COLD WATER FOR YOU, but was kind of a fortunate coincidence), but ugh. It's December, it's New England, it's cold, and I have things I need to be doing. Like... bathing. And washing my dishes (without having to boil the water in the microwave - it was closer and took less time than the stove).

Does anyone have any recommendations for the little speakers you can plug into an mp3 player (specific models or just companies that generally make good ones. The only thing is it can't be iPod-only, my mother doesn't have an iPod)? I've been reading up on them, but I don't have any experience with the things and there's not really a way to test them out beforehand, and I don't want to get her a pair that isn't going to work well. And I am running out of time.

...blah blah blah Final Fantasy blah. Crisis Core. (I am at least not replaying it! Though I am rewatching some of the highlights on youtube. (By which I mean, someone else's playthrough, which they so nicely uploaded in its entirely. Hee, the beginning confused me so much. OKAY ON A TRAIN WHEE FFVII flash--? It's a flashback from my standpoint, but not by the game's timeline. Wait, what? Now a behemoth?? AND NOW AUGH SEPHIROTH ATTACK. Wait, does anyone who hasn't played it - er, so, everyone? - plan on playing it? I can cut this stuff. Well, that's all from the very opening, but I was going to go on, and that's getting into SPOILERSSSS territory.) IT'S FUN, and not so bad when I'm not the one playing. Kinda like Silent Hill, in that regard.

Oh, heck, I'll probably just post an entry later that is me just rambling incoherently about it. If you want to follow along, well, hey, there's the link to the playthrough I've been watching. XD
Dissidia came out Tuesday and I appear to have picked up a copy from somewhere, but I am not playing it yet because Crisis Core has eaten my soul i am not even joking.

This entry is a bit confusing because some of it was written as I went along and some of it was after I’d passed the part and was reflecting back and/or avoiding continuing in the game. So if I'm writing in present tense (and I definitely have a few places), that's why. It’s not entirely game rambling. It’s actually mostly me being distressed and using an unholy amount of italics.

Divided into sections for … my own entertainment, I guess, I don’t know.

BUT - I edit in several hours later - before I begin: I have no evidence to back this up (I can't even remember seeing anyone ever talk about this game), but considering the popularity of the other aspects of the FFVII compilation (I... just wrote "complication" there, which would also fit) stuff, I deeply suspect this is not a popular game. I don't care. I loved it. JUDGE ME AS YOU WILL. But this isn't going to be an entry complaining about it. So don't go in and then be surprised when I am saying good things about it.

Spoilers only if you haven’t played FFVII yet )

The following are new to the game, but there are no real plot points, just things that amuse me. All of the following is from optional stuff. Still, if you don’t want to know anything, don’t keep reading…

Crisis Core spoilers, but no plot points )

And now I go on to actual plot points. SPOILERS! LOOK AWAY.

Crisis Core and FFVII spoilers )

So, anyway.

Final Fantasy VII was a game that had a huge impact on me. I don't know why, part of it was, I'm sure, because it was my introduction to the series, and this game... It's not like Advent Children, which was, you know, a movie. (A very pretty one, at that, and by the way, I liked it, so feel free to tell me you hate it but I won't agree with you. Though I'll freely acknowledge it had some problems.) It's not Dirge of Gerbils, which was, I don't know, something else entirely. I'm not sure I liked Dirge.

Crisis Core was an amazing nostalgia trip. This wasn't the world post-FFVII, this was the one we know and ran around in. The areas you visit are the same, recreated, and it is ... something else to be able to walk around these places you remember and find that you still know them, but they're more detailed, and in some ways you have more freedom and in others less, but... wow. It was really incredible to me.

And the story itself was, I felt, a very good, albeit heartbreaking, one.

And now I need to run because I have to go to work. Whoops.
