I do not want to go to work tomorrow. It is a long day and those are lonely and sad, and it is a Sunday so I will have to walk, possibly in the rain, and I am feeling unappreciated by my manager, who is writing shitty schedules.

Day 07 - Favourite game couple.

mysticeden answered with what I was going to, and I don't want to seem like I'm just ripping that. How about top three, instead? I LOVE THEM ALL <3 <3 So it totally still counts. And because in two cases, it at least feels like the majority of people hate the pair, so I want to declare my love for them out of spite. Or… something. IDK.
... BUT FIRST! Hey, speaking of you,mysticeden! You will want to skip to the bottom of this entry and scroll up, or else scroll down REALLY FAST or something, since there are some spoilers (some of which are in the form of images!) for games you haven't finished yet in the top half of this!
(By the way, if anyone else is worried about spoilers for game they haven't finished yet, just let me know and I will give you warnings, too.)
NOW, IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER:
TIDUS AND YUNA
I DON'T CARE IF PEOPLE HATE TIDUS 'CAUSE HE'S WHINY AND STUPID I happen to not really have found him to be either of those things, but it's been a while since I played X through from beginning to end, so I suppose I could have blocked it out! But even if he was, he grows a lot through the course of the game! But, man! He is like the only character who treats her normally, even if it's just because he has no idea what's going to happen in Zanarkand. (But then when he finds out, he doesn't just accept it like everyone else does, and he ultimately helps to defeat Sin for good, despite knowing that doing so will basically kill him. And because he was willing to do that, Yuna gets to have a life.)
ALSO THE ENDING IF FFX IS LIKE THE WORST THING EVER (it's not, but shut up for a minute). AUGH. 'Cause he's an idiot (okay, no, I do see the logic behind it, let's be fair) and almost no one knows what's going to happen, and they just lost Auron, and then Yuna performs the sending and turns around and – GOD DAMN IT, AGAIN? – there's Tidus fading out of existence. And he's just going to go off and disappear like that BUT WAIT NO and then she
FALLS RIGHT THROUGH HIM and augh.
AND THEN CUT AWAY TO YUNA WHISTLING AND WHISTLING AND WHISTLING AND *sobs*

BUT IT'S OKAY because then you play FFX-2 and EVERYTHING IS BETTER at the end.
…And, this maybe will sound totally bizarre, maybe, but I only really 'ship it long term because he dies/fades at the end of the game (AND THEN COMES BACK SHUT UP), because I think Yuna needed time to, you know, live, for once? And I don't think they'd have worked out if he'd hung around. BUT HE DIDN'T. So when he came back, it totally worked. YAY!
By the way, while we're here, this is something I've noticed and which has weirded me out a bit. I keep forgetting about it, but looking for images for this meme has reminded me of it again.
THIS PICTURE of Yuna. It seems like, most of the time I see it, the person has flipped it so her earring is on the wrong side and her eyes are reversed. I mean, I get it, maybe they like the shot but want her facing the other way, but, geez, Yuna's not a very good character to go flipping images of.

Poor FFVIII. So many people completely hate you, and so many of the people who don't still hate a fair portion of your cast.

So, one of the reasons I see a lot of people hating on Squall and Rinoa (aside from the IT CAME OUT OF NOWHERE group) is that they see it as all give on Squall's side while Rinoa just forces him to change into whatever she wants him to be, aaaand I… guess I can sort of see where they're coming from? I just disagree with them! I thought, of the cast, Rinoa actually seemed to be the one to "get" him most. Sure, they butted heads a lot in the beginning of the game, but she realized she was part of the problem, there, and toned it down. From my perspective, she did the best job of reaching out to him (most of them just accidentally drove him farther into his shell when they tried, telling him "that's so unlike you" when he tried to change and "lololol typical Squall" when he didn't, and from my own experiences, that method of trying to draw people out? Totally does not work. At all). Yes, Squall has dependency issues (he also has abandonment issues. I do not say that in defense of the dependency issues or anything, just, well, it is a … a thing), but they can probably work on that. First step is getting him to realize PEOPLE ARE OKAY. IT IS OKAY TO HAVE FRIENDS AND TRUST OTHERS, SQUALL.
What he had going for his life at the start of the game was not healthy. And being super-dependant on anyone (for example, Rinoa! 'Cause yeah he gets a little weird on disc 3) is also not healthy. But he also has other friends now, too, and I think after the game's end, things will start to work towards something healthier. And it could totally work out!
(Admittedly also, some of my perspective is granted to me by dialogue and other decisions. Apparently they have a big, angry fight if you pick the wrong music for Selphie's concert, for example! But if you do not pick the wrong music, they have a really great conversation, which is the one I tend to go with.)
(And, of course, because this game was from the era of shorter, textless cutscenes, most of the scenes I would put here for LOOK THEY ARE CUTE and/or BREAKING MY HEART are all with the in-game models and textboxes and would be a major pain to track down. Sorry!)
(Only sort-of related, since Kingdom Hearts-land is not related to the original games unless you're bored and try to come up with increasingly convoluted ways of making it fit regardless of KH canon - and okay yes sometimes I am that bored - but, okay, I guess it turns out that I am the only person in the universe who, during the ending of Kingdom Hearts II, when "LEON" gets that letter and the pink thing pops out, thought it looked like the wings on Rinoa's jacket-thing in FFVIII rather than some random butterfly thing? Like, even the Kingdom Hearts wiki thinks it was a butterfly. My brother for example, thought that, since the camera then cut to Aerith standing where Cloud and Sephiroth disappeared from, it was from her. APPARENTLY I AM A LUNATIC? OR DOES ANYONE ELSE AGREE WITH ME THAT IT WAS TOTALLY FROM RINOA.)

Also, I love everything you say about the relationship between Squall/Rinoa. I wouldn't say I 'ship them that much, but I definitely agree that Rinoa's approach to helping Squall is a lot better than that of most of the cast.
(Also, she totally sent him the wings in Kingdom Hearts II. Absolute unquestionable fact.)
