Mixed bag entry. Good news first, I suppose.

Had another follow up regarding my ankle/tibia/stealth staph infection this afternoon. Another round of x-rays. EXCELLENT NEWS. The site looks clear AND! The bone has actually grown back a little. So I have most of my feeling back around the incision, no returned staph infection, and some regrown bone, which I was warned would probably not happen, since, you know, late 20s and all. I was not scheduled for another appointment. Doctor figures if it was going to come back, it'd be there by now, so unless the pain starts up again, I'M CLEAN.

Aaaand the other news.

Relatives drama. )

So that's the news.

You know that thing where you suddenly hate basically all of your icons? merghjkgtlr;re

Anyway, I somehow ended up without an assigned topic for the 27th day of the, uh, December meme, so you're going to get a hopefully brief rundown of what'd been up with me since, well, who fucking knows, actually, but mid-December (ie, when I started missing meme days and mostly stopped replying to entry comments I AM SO SORRY it wasn't anything personal), to be more specific.

A story of an ankle. )

( Dec. 16th, 2014 12:36 pm)
I'm home, I'm mostly coherent, I still have two feet, and my ankle actually hurts less right now than it did when I woke up this morning, but that's probably the pain killers talking.

I do not remember how to get around on crutches as well as I'd hoped, but the day is young, and I'm still a little loopy, which probably doesn't help.

But (HOPEFULLY??) the worst is over. They cut the thing out and it's been sent to the lab, where they will hopefully figure out what it is and if anything more needs to be done.

Thank you everyone for your kind words and thoughts lately!

First, thanks to everyone for the kind thoughts about my announcement (f-locked). UNFORTUNATELY, BECAUSE HOSPITALS, I've been bumped to "tentatively Tuesday." So now I have the whole weekend to work myself into a proper freak out about it. wheeeee... But I'll be able to get Friday's post up on time, at least? BUT NOT TODAY'S because I'm feeling all sad and disappointed. I'll finish it tomorrow and put it up first.

I can't believe I still don't have a relevant icon. (Yes, actually, I can. I look at icons a lot, but I rarely find any I'd want to use.)

I just put up a locked entry and so I'm gonna put up this, too, though it's not as long and as love-gushing as it could/should be. My arm hurts, my ankle hurts, I'm tired, my brain is seriously other places right now. Anyway. Today is the second entry featuring any one character from my list of "top ten favourite fictional characters."

I'm totally cheating on this one, because I'm counting multiple characters as one. Also I have no idea who I'm going to use for the third entry in this vein. This and the first entry are the only two I've been able to come up with so far. The potential candidates list is just too long. aaaaugh.

Deal with it. )

Short, but to the point. Hopefully. Sorry. Maybe I'll come back to this later (no i wont).

Today's prompt: "Time and money aren't an issue. Where do you take a vacation?"

EVERYWHERE.

I WOULD DO A WORLD TOUR. I would visit all my friends all over the world, and see all the cool things, eat all the good food, EVERYTHING.

I would start on the east coast of North America and then just work my way west. I would hit Alaska and Hawaii and lots of places in Canada, and also revisit Santiago de Querétaro in Mexico (not necessarily in that order, because that's a really bad, stupid order). I WOULD SEE SOUTH AMERICA. I would travel by boat to Australia, and also go to Japan and perhaps India, maaaaaybe China? I would probably avoid Russia and the Middle East, though I want to go to Egypt. And then up into Europe and go EVERYWHERE some more.

I would go for more detail, but it'd probably have a lot of playing it by ear, so.

If WORLD TOUR is not an option, I guess I'd hit up Australia. Even if they DO have spiders from hell. It's far away and expensive to get to, so if time and money aren't an issue, well. Go someplace far away and spend lots of time exploring. :)

Sooo, on Tuesday, which I had off, I (finally) got a new x-ray form and took myself up to the hospital to have my stupid right ankle looked at. For those just coming in, my ankle likes to randomly burst into excruciating pain for no apparent reason, and it has been doing this on and off for at least, um. At least eight years.

I sprained it (quite badly) in first grade, then again in fifth grade, and then a few other times since, and I'd figured for a while it was maybe just because it was weak and hurt from the trauma it endured when I was, you know, seven or so. But two years back I asked my doctor about it because GDI IT HURTS and she suggested we try physical therapy for it, see what that brought. What it brought was not much, really. In the end, my therapist said that there wasn't much of any improvement being made and, judging by the nature of the pain I described, possibly I had something called "joint mice." So my doctor wrote me an x-ray form aaaand then I started my job at the bank and had no time whatsoever and the form expired and I was too embarrassed to ask for a new one UNTIL MONDAY when I went in for a physical (traumatic).

Back to Tuesday.

For my x-ray, it cost a lot of money up front and will probably cost more later, because lolhospitals. And I heard NOTHING yesterday aaaugh and then late this afternoon at work my doctor called me HEY WE GOT YOUR ANKLE SHOTS GOOD NEWS!! There is definitely some lesion thing that we don't know what it is in there!

She thinks it's probably a benign bone tumor and, having read up on them a little now, I do find myself wondering about that osteoid osteoma, especially on account of that "gets worse at night" bit. The number of times I have woken up in agony... Sharp and deep aren't too far off the mark for the pain, either. Also, those look pretty treatable, so, so, so maybe...?

Anyway, they want me to go back for an MRI so they can get MOAR DATA, which kind of makes my wallet weep, but fortunately I should hit my deductible soon, which means maaaaaaybe I won't have to pay for it all? Freaking health insurance. So expensive. So useless.
I wanna make this short because I'm dead tired and I've already been up about 40 minutes longer than I wanted to be, but I figured I should announce my having endured the previous month. Shortly after my last entry I kinda fell into another slump. I think maybe it's habit at this point.

I made a to-do list for the month and only got about half of it done. This sounds even less impressive when you know that one of the items on the list was "eat breakfast"... I did manage to get to the post office several times, but only once did I mail anything, and every other time I was looking for the flat rate boxes, which have apparently disappeared from the local one? I finally snagged a few from the small one near my work last Thursday. I have successfully sold a few robots. No one wanted any postcards. One of my roommates crossed a line with his joke insulting and now I don't want to be anywhere near him. I got older and my ankle hurt a bunch.

But it's March now and I've perked up a tiny bit, at least. I'm reading your entries, but I haven't got the energy to comment yet. I've eaten three meals a day for the past three days. FFXIV is running beta and anyone with an active account at the closing down back in October was automatically enrolled in it. /one of these things is not like the other

I need to remember to ask my therapist about anxiety and triggers and things, because my reaction to severely drunk individuals is really kind of worrying, and now I don't want to be anywhere near my other roommate, either.
I spent forty minutes around 5 o'clock this morning (well, Tuesday morning) in bed weeping in pain and unable to even think from the agony, while I waited for the painkillers to kick in. BUT THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH MY ANKLE, OH, NO, I GUESS THIS IS TOTALLY NORMAL. (It's still not sprained, either! YES, THANK YOU, MEDICAL WORLD, I'D NEVER HAVE FIGURED THAT ONE OUT ON MY OWN.)

Anyway, it's been a couple days, and I'm just brain-dumping a little more about 358/2 Days. (Because I am kind of embarrassed by the NOTHING that goes on in the ramble, I guess? Or something.)

Cut for spoilers! )

Now for some slightly less depressing stuff? I GOT MY GLACEON! Yay, Ayarei! And my Leafeon(s! The female is Rana, the male was named Kodama at my brother's suggestion). I also finally managed to track down a Scyther. I've been stalking that damn bug-catching contest for like a week now, and never finding one, and eventually getting sick of restarting and just settling with a Pinsir or whatever. BUT NO MORE! Yaaaay. ALSO I've taken my Pokéwalker with me to work enough now that even when it has nothing in it, I still grab it. Except! Apparently if there's no Pokémon in it, one will join you?! I DID NOT KNOW THAT but there's a Furret in there now and there wasn't earlier, and, awwww ♥ it totally made my day yesterday. Which, uh, was kind of weird! I did not expect to be so touched by that, but I kept finding myself being all happy about it. So, um, whatever?

AND. THE BEST THING EVER! I FINALLY BEAT MAAT. AAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHA THAT ONLY TOOK FOR EVER.

… @_@;

Now for some videos that made me laugh but which probably none of you will understand. The Greatest Boss in Gaming History! Not shown: the hundreds of times it kills you by pinning you against the wall. (PING PING PING PING PING PING PING PINGPINGPINGPINGPING) (And, for a strange twist, I actually appreciate most of the comments on these videos. XD) And the hardest video game jump ever. Thankfully not included: the godawful TINK sound that comes from striking into a wall. OH GOD THAT SOUND. And also I don't quite know what he means about the last three being easier / on a keyboard? Speed is not the biggest problem, the biggest problem is getting exactly the right angles at exactly the right time. By the way, you play that level twice. (The worst part of the jumping one is that I dicovered years later that there is a fucking shortcut? That I was just never able to find? Oh, god, did I scream when I found out about it. Actually, I'm not sure I'm over it yet.) (The first one is funnier. The second one is still a little too AAAAUGH for me.) (DO THOSE VIDEOS EXPLAIN A LOT ABOUT ME, especially re: my THING with dolphins? THEY SHOULD.)

So, in case any of you were unaware (since some of you probably are, since you do not all live on this half of the planet), something like half of North America has been getting lots and lots of snow recently! And here is no exception! And sometimes they even get the sidewalks cleared before more is dumped down upon us!

But not always.

But that is not the point! The point is that the snowbanks on the sides of the roads are getting out of control - a surprising number of them are as tall as me, and all of them are over half my height - so we're talking at least 3 feet of snow. EVERYWHERE. Or at least everywhere near a road. (Or so it was on Thursday. I did not go outside today due to LAZY AND IN PAIN FROM ANKLE so maybe it's settled a bit more!) So, Tuesday night is the night before recycling is picked up, and it was my week for it, but I got home and said, SCREW THAT THERE IS TOO MUCH SNOW AND NOWHERE TO PUT THIS STUFF. So I informed my roommate the recycling was just going to wait, there were only like 5 things in the bin, anyway, okay.

Well! Wednesday morning, the recycling wasn't picked up. Maybe they're late? Wednesday afternoon, same story. Wednesday evening, IT IS STILL THERE.

Thursday morning there was a, "screw this there is too much snow we can't get to your stuff BRING IT BACK INSIDE" message! Of course, everyone who put their stuff out has neglected this message, so things are getting blown out of the bins and all over the place AWESOME, GUYS. REAL AWESOME. But, ha, the one week I decide it's not worth the effort is the week they decide the same thing.

And then today I can't really claim credit for but shhhh. So I didn't have work! But my manager didn't have next week's hours up yesterday like she was supposed to! So I called to find out my Sunday hours aaand the coworker who answered the phone told me a story! The other coworker on that night had BROKEN A WATER PIPE. So my whole department is basically underwater. BUT I WON'T HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT 'cause I didn't work today and I don't work tomorrow! YAAAY! Seriously. Though I am kind of curious as to how she managed to pull it off, and how flooded things are. But not curious enough to go investigate.

Speaking of abrupt subject changes...

More KH 358/2 Days 23 to 72 )

It's been cold again, by the way, but I have finally adapted to it and no longer find the sub-freezing temperatures to be THE MOST EVILEST OF EVILS. I still don't like them and know better than to walk to work when it's too cold, but, eh.

...Also, I am ridiculously thirsty today. DRINKING SO MUCH. I am turning into some sort of strange, tea-drinking arctic camel, maybe!
It has been over a month since we've had a day where the temperature's gone above freezing.

JANUARY THAW, WHY DID YOU FORSAKE US?

And February's getting the party started by dumping snow on, what, half the continental United States? Things usually freeze up again this month anyway, and we never even had our thaw! Wah.

(Also, my ankle still hurts! Only now my second toe also feels funny? It's a little malformed - maybe it's a mallet toe, I honestly don't know, but it does kind of look like one... - but it's never given me problems until about a week ago, and it's really getting frustrating. At least my left foot/ankle/LEG IN GENERAL still loves me.

Mom brought the SHINY BLUE DS out to me yesterday, so I spent most of last night screwing around in Pokémon SoulSilver getting used to the system, by which I mean "reminding myself to use the stylus and not, say, my fingers on the touch screen". I spent the rest of last night being excited about having my very own save file in a Pokémon game. (My brother had a Gameboy years ago. He would let me play around on his file, though, and I had friends who would also let me use theirs. BUT LOOK THIS ONE IS MINE.) So now I am noobing it up outside the first town and coming up with lists of Pokémon I want to catch so I can name them ridiculous things. (Also I started with Chikorita, but could not come up with a nickname on the spot. So she's still just "Chikorita".)

May start Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days tonight, or I may wait until tomorrow. Either way, I'll probably plow through it without quite meaning to (that is how Kingdom Hearts games seem to go with me). And then I will probably start on FFVII.

AND WE ALL KNOW WHAT FEBRUARY MEANS! FUCK. MY. ANKLE. OMG, do you really have to start up the first of the month? It's earlier every year and adshfkjlg it HURTS and why can't anyone ever figure out why. I'll probably end up at the doctor's again by the end of the month, despite all past experiences proving it to be a waste of time and energy. WHAT THE HELL IS UP WITH YOU, ANKLE AND FEBRUARY I WANT TO BE ABLE TO WALK AGAIN :(

Top Gear! I think we all saw this coming. I'm only surprised it took so long to turn up.

...MY ROOMMATE (who proclaims every year her hatred of cake mixes) IS EYING MY CUPCAKES (made from cake mix). Fortunately she did not ask for one. So I do not have to share. I am a greedy cupcake hoarder! CURSEEEESSSSSSS

Anyway, this is my life now:

Helping brother with homework. )

My DS arrived today, buuuut since it was Mom who placed the order (I have no PayPal account), she had it sent to the house. Where I am not. And that Snowstorm of Doom is rolling through tonight and tomorrow (heh, every school district save one has already decided to call off tomorrow. Too bad they can't cancel my work, I don't wanna go out into what we're supposed to get), so it is unlikely she will be able to bring it by. But the game I ordered also arrived, and I had that sent directly to meeee. So, uh. That's something, at least!

Anyway, Final Fantasy VII has completely consumed my brain (the takeover was inevitable, I've been trying to avoid it since beating XIII, but even then it felt like a losing battle), and I am thinking the best way to solve it is to just replay the game already and possibly blather endlessly about it as I go.

Anyone wanna play along with me so we can blather about it together? :D? (We could arrange a time line of sorts, or something!)

( Mar. 2nd, 2010 03:22 pm)
Woke up freakishly early Friday morning because we were leaving early and because I have a bunch of errands to run before we left. So I throw myself to the floor around 7 am? Run around, barely finish everything, and am ready to go at 9 am! .... 9:05 the phone rings, it's my mother, she's only just leaving, so I've got an hour to waste. I COULD HAVE SLEPT MORE? Woe. She arrives, we finally leave, everything's good! It's kind of warm, sun is shining... We drive without incident for five hours! Then we pull over to change drivers and, in a display if incredible timing skill, my brother calls while we're at the rest stop. He wanted to let us know it was snowing where he was, had been snowing for the last day+. We still had blue skies and sun, so that was kind of strange to hear. SURE ENOUGH, THOUGH, I've barely been driving for ten minutes when suddenly it's snowing! WHERE DID THAT COME FROM?! I don't drive long ("only" about two hours), because my ankle's still bothering me, and the snow's only been getting worse as we've gone along. (I have a bunch of pictures taken from the car, if anyone wants me to upload them, just let me know. Or check Facebook, since they're up there.) It ended up snowing the entire weekend. And nothing accumulated! It was insane.

Anyway, we rolled into town, checked into a room, and then met my brother... wasted some time, ate dinner, crashed early (driving all day can do that). On Saturday, we went to the National Museum of Play, 'cause they've got a LEGO exhibit right now (Nathan Sawaya's stuff), and it was AWESOME. Here is a photo link dump, but I think all of them can be seen at his site (and the pictures are probably better quality. Light was a little too low for no flash, but then the flash bounced off them). LEGO tree, man and his reflection, paint project, no flash and with flash.

Random other images from the trip include the tree behind my brother's place (he doesn't know why there are chairs in it), a MASSIVE SNOWMAN OMG seriously this thing was ridiculous, and the only magnet on their fridge (I love the duck's expression. IT KNOWS IT IS IRRITATING YOU AND IT DOESN'T CARE. It is mocking you).

We ate more delicious food (we ate a lot of delicious food...), didn't really do anything on Sunday, and then drove home Monday in THANKFULLY NOT A SNOWSTORM (we drove home in the dark in a snowstorm last year). It did rain, though.

AND THEN I CAME HOME AND FFXI / THE PLAYERBASE HAD EXPLODED. (To be fair, I knew about that before I got home again, since my brother had seen most of it and told me.) Those of you who get mail from my FFXI characters, in the next set of letters they're ignoring the fourth wall again. More so than usual, I mean. Just so you're prepared.

PS IT IS MARCH NOW HOORAY HOORAY WE SURVIVED ANOTHER FEBRUARY

This will probably not be any more exciting on days I actually, you know, leave the building.

Thinking of changing my layout around. DO NOT BE ALARMED IF I APPEAR TO EXPLODE OVER HERE. m'done playing with the colors (NO JECCA YOU LIVE IN THE COUNTRY THAT DOESN'T USE THE U) now. (If you look, please tell me if it's appalling, I have no sense of whether or not things match or clash.)
