"It's been a bad day~"

Monday was awful! And it was an awful end of an awful work-week. AWFULNESS ABOUNDS. Thankfully, today is a blessedly work-free day. No work! Finally! A day off! Now I whine about yesterday, but I will put all of that under a cut so it can be avoided easily.

So I have been working a lot lately. We got a new manager for the bakery, as I have probably mentioned. No one likes her. NO ONE. The people in the other departments don't like her. She's terrible, mean, downtalks to everyone... She likes me, for some reason, and hates the other person who closes for some reason, so she gives me 30-hour weeks and gives the poor other person (who's husband?/partner died a few months back, so now she's supporting herself on this one job) ... maybe eight. We've both talked to her (I have too many hours, it's killing me), but she just doesn't care.

She doesn't listen to anyone, either. She's trying to completely change how we do things. The managers or the store keep having to talk to her, tell her that's now how things are supposed to be done. She does listen to them eventually, but it takes a while. She doesn't listen to the employees, all of whom have been here much longer than she has.

So anyway, yesterday, Monday, was an eight and a half hour day, which I hate. I have told her I do not like 8.5 hour days, but, hey, she doesn't listen to anyone. I get in early, prepared to run around in the freezer doing all the morning baking, but I find it has all been done already.

Well, I guess it's good that I didn't have to spend unholy amounts of time trying not to freeze to death in there, but on days when I do do the baking, there isn't even seven hours or work for me to do.

So I packaged all the products (cookies, pies, turnovers, and there were not strudel bites) and then I was assigned to tray up muffins (ie, run around in the freezer). I hate muffins. Also, she wanted me to make a list of how many of each muffin type we had. WHY? I do not know!

So I finish with all that and it's like maybe 2 pm, so I've been at work about two and a half hours and am all out of things to do. And I've been working long days for like the past week and my feet are trying to secede. Also, I'm cleaning my room and so have been sleeping (rather poorly, actually) in the guest room, so I was very, very tired.

This whole time, grumpy-new-manager is telling me to be sure to do all this stuff that I am either already doing, have already done, or that I cannot do yet because the stuff is not ready or because whatever I am in the middle of is more pressing. I HAVE BEEN HERE A YEAR! I know how to do my job! Leave me alone. And stop talking to me as if you think I am a moron. It makes me hate you.

Anyway, much longer rant cut short, customers all were terrible, manager was doubly terrible, work was terrible, and the only bright spot was when I took one of the free cookies we offer for the kids and buried it underneath cake icing and ate it. That was actually quite tasty.

Came home and father was being his usual useless self. We have some people coming today to dig up our driveway because the downstairs plumbing needs work, so we're parking the cars in the parking lot across the street, but when I got home from work, the lot was full. So I figure, hey, park in the driveway and move it in half an hour when they've finished clearing out, right? No, father's not having that. Get back in, start the car back up, and go park it somewhere else down the street.

It's really a minor offense, but my day was really awful and my feet hurt and I had a headache and I hate the Toyota because something about the seats hurts my neck.

But whatever. I get upstairs and turn on my laptop and, oh, right, it's Monday. Virus scan day. But I was at work all afternoon, so it has to run then, so nothing will work right because it's too busy lagging. Augh. But I got KOTOR (more below) installed, only for the computer to fritz, go into lockdown (good thing I'm the systems administrator, I suppose, since that means I can unlock it), and reset all of my character data.

Somehow had managed to work myself up into being angry, which is fairly uncommon. I have been feeling a bit out of sorts, actually, for about the past week. Last Wednesday? Since I started sleeping in the guest room (I am using my bed to hold things while I sort them, so it's not really sleepable). I'm not sure if it's the guest room or the horribly, horribly awkward meet-up I had Wednesday evening, actually. I just feel off. It is starting to ruin my brain, as I have apparently started having extreme troubles speaking and typing coherently (language center crashing! Augh!), and basic html is destroying me.

...Fortunately, my brother and I managed to remember all the placements, and the second time it all went okay.

Also, I had homemade ice cream with chocolate sauce, a piece of See's candy, and toast. And toast makes a lot of things better. And, since it was Monday, the whatever-station-it-is station has Doctor Who on, so I got to watch that, too.

So I was feeling much, much better by the time I went to bed! Hooray.

To celebrate my finally having a day off, last night I stole my brother's copy of Knights of the Old Republic, installed it on my laptop, and created a character. In typical fashion, after I'd picked a face and placed some of her stats, she peered out and decided to name herself. My characters always name themselves. It's very bizarre. I don't know when it started, because I have clear memories of struggling to come up with names for some of my earlier Diablo II characters.

Anyway, I was planning on either using Jade (even though Jade's claimed that one, because the face I chose is similar. Skin's too light and eyes are too blue and not green, but still similar), but, no. She wanted Kyra, but apparently there's an actor who spells her name like that and pronounces it "Kira," so I went with "Kaira." She's warming up to it well enough. (The good news is, despite her physical similarities to Jade, Kaira appears to be much nicer. Hooray!)

Though I can't complain too much, really. I'd rather they chose their own identities right from the beginning, rather than just deciding they weren't going to listen to me one day (like Jade, argh), or sneaking up on me. The sneaks usually tweak the spelling of their name (like Zil), or something similar.

And, really, today has already proven The Best Day Ever. I started my laptop up to find a message waiting over YIM telling me to get on FFXI as soon as I could, so I logged in and boggled for a minute over what the heck I was doing in South Gustaberg when I logged out in West Ronfaure (Gustaberg is several zones away) and macro-swapped my Summerfest Sunbreeze Fest outfit for my normal gear (yes, the fact that I macro-swapped is important, because it means I didn't open my inventory). Also hadn't thought much of the fact that I was standing in the spawning area for Leaping Lizzy (a Notorious Monster who drops a really nice pair of boots).

Anyway, finally Aniko told me to just check my equipment, so, uh. Dude.

Dude.

I have been after that miserable hairpin for about as long as I've been playing this game (we're approaching four years now). It has eluded me! For years! The drop rate is horrible, everyone tries to kill the monster it drops off (because everyone wants it) and the non-rare/ex version (meaning it's tradable) sells for more money than I will ever have. I FLAIL.

And also I owe Aniko a piece of my soul.

And now we (she managed to bring people with her!) are camping the aforementioned Leaping Lizzy and I need to stop being distracted.
