Trip post the first
I'm not sure here at the beginning if this is going to be one post or two. Either way, I'm going to go on about travel, the hotel, and Disney before I talk about BotCon, because, uh. BECAUSE. SO THERE. Mostly this means I just swap Friday afternoon and Friday night. Also, I can't be bothered to try and upload all of these things to Photobucket, so I'm going to try directly linking from Facebook. We'll see how it goes! Whee.
So, yeah! Tuesday! Wake up! Get in the car! Go to the airport! There were a whole lot of military folk shipping out, was kind of odd to see. Also, since Tuesday is a cheap day to fly on, there were A MILLION people and most of them must not fly very often because no one had any idea what they were doing. Was a bit frustrating! But we finally made it through security.
Something about airports - I think it's the ridiculous amount of useless security measures and rules - makes me think too much about it and all I want to do after about 5 minutes is make terrible jokes about terrorism and bombs and how omg I can't have a bottle of water but I can have a pen? PENS ARE WEAPONS!!! Mostly I manage to shut up, but, ugh.
Anyway, right inside there was a group of people from - where? They were speaking Spanish and Mom and I were a bit bewildered as to where they'd be from and where they'd be going, so finally we asked and it turned out they were a choir group from Puerto (uh, that is a word, Firefox) Rico heading up to Montreal for a music festival! Was kind of a surreal start to the morning, anyway.
Flew to JFK, made our connecting flight with no hassle... screaming child on the plane on the way to Florida... And then Mom got all stressed out because... I don't know. I was reading the signs and got us almost straight to the shuttle service, but she was stressing out over it. AND THEN WE WAITED FOR THE BUS IN EXTREME HEAT AND HUMIDITY. Which, just to cut words later, literally never let up while we were down there (rain was rolling in as we left). Even at 3 am, it was still hot and humid and miserable.
Bus to the hotel... we stopped at the Buena Vista Suites on the way, which is where we stayed when my whole family went to Florida eight-or-so years ago. AND THEN THE SWAN! Because Mom never actually read the room confirmation e-mail and thought we were in the Dolphin up until two days before we left. :D
We checked in and then went up to investigate our room! (We had room 246, which amused me.) The room was nice! AND VERY COLD. Mom and I had to turn the heat up, brr. (Though then that night, I don't know what the whole one blanket was made of, but we both woke up sweating and slept with just the thick sheet for the rest of our stay.)
The beds, the desk/dresser, the little soaps and stuff, which actually smelled nice for a change, the sink outside the bathroom (and my toothbrush), and the bathroom (and its many mirrors. Also UNENDING MIRROR HALL.
And then we went exploring! Some shots of/around the Swan and Dolphin:
This fountain was inside the hotel by the lobby.
Dolphin and palm trees
Dolphin and SUN IN YOUR EYES
The other corner of the Dolphin
The Dolphin. Again.
THE SWAN
Dolphin fountain
Swan fountain
Pretty hibiscus
Mom holding a flower still.
ALSO THERE WERE AWESOME LIGHTS HANGING ALL OVER THE PLACE. Or in three places.
Coloured light
Jellyfish-esque light
Bubble-light in the BlueZoo (a seafood restaurant, see below), flash off.
Same as above, flash on.
After poking around the immediate area and determining approximately where BotCon was going to be, we headed out to the Boardwalk, looking at stuff and potentially for dinner. Mostly it was shops and grilled food places... But it was fun to look around!
Across the water towards Epcot
Shops, restaurants, and the boardwalk hotel set above it all
THE SWAN IS WATCHING YOU
There were a lot of birds. I took... a lot of pictures of them. Here is a duck.
The Dance Hall and the Dolphin behind it
Walkway... there was a wedding here Thursday morning
After finding nothing worthwhile on the Boardwalk, we headed back to the hotels, where there were lots of restaurants. Steak house, italian, sushi, (really expensive) buffets, seafood... We ended up at the BlueZoo, the seafood place. IT WAS SO PRETTY INSIDE. I wish it hadn't been so dim inside, because I would love to have pictures to show. All iridescent blue tiles and clever lighting and glass things hanging around... made it look like underwater.
Anyway, we ordered crab nachos (which were amazing and delicious) and then fish (I had monk fish, Mom had salmon). And it arrived so pretty! I only thought to take a picture after I'd poked it with the fork. Also, they served us delicious bread, but I don't remember what all types there were. JUST THAT THEY WERE DELICIOUS.
After dinner, Mom wanted to walk around some more, so we walked through the Yacht Club to Epcot (it's a little shorter that way then going through the Boardwalk, and anyway we'd already gone that way!) and hung around there a bit, just looking into the park at the stuff. Then we boarded the ferry shuttle (it went to the Boardwalk, the Yacht Club, the Swan and Dolphin, and then up to Disney Hollywood), but it was slow and really hot, so we hopped out at the first stop and walked from the Boardwalk. Though! As we were just approaching the Swan, I spotted a teeny, adorable little snake!
So Mom and I made sure he made it all the way across the walkway without being stepped on or eaten by the duck that kept coming over.
oh god this is already four pages long.
Okay, yeah, definitely multiple posts.
Because we were at a Disney resort, we had access to extra hours at the parks on certain days. Wednesday, the Animal Kingdom had extra hours (8 am to 8 pm, instead of 9 am to 7 pm). Thursday, Epcot had extra hours (9 am to midnight, instead of 9 to 9), and that day I'd have to run back to the hotel to grab my BotCon stuff. Friday, we could stay at the Magic Kingdom until 3 am Saturday morning! So we decided to go in that order.
So Wednesday was Animal Kingdom day!

We hopped the free shuttle on over and entered the park. I TOOK MANY PICTURES OF BIRDS.
You probably all know about the huge Tree of Life they had installed/built there, but I took pictures (front) of it, anyway (back).
We decided to start in Africa, so - off we went! The tree is on "Discovery Island", so we had to cross a bridge to get over there, and saw this pretty scene. That's Mount Everest over in Asia in the background, there...
So, first thing we did in Africa was get in line for the Kilimanjaro Safari! There were some people slowly working their way up the line, so Mom and I spread out next to one of the many people in an electric scooter-things (oh god so many) and BLOCKED THEM HAHAHA. <.<; Finally got through the line and, thankfully, did not end up in the same vehicle as the very loud family behind us. WE SAW LOTS OF COOL ANIMALS! But since the road was rough and we were always moving, most of my pictures didn't turn out brilliantly. Here are some of them, anyway.
Birds in a tree
Black rhino
Birds and hippos
More hippos!
Look at their horns!
Termite mound and also our driver in the mirror
Giraffe
Monkey hiding by a rock (he's over to the right)
One of these neat trees
Elephant family!
More birds
Cheetahs!
Sleepy lions
haha, this thing. First it was in the road...
Then it was sticking its head in the way...
Then finally it let us by.
Spring!
We saw some other things on our "two week safari"" but the pics aren't so great and I'm lazy. After we got back the real world, we went on the "Pangani Forest Exploration Trail" where we saw... more birds, lots of fish, no meerkats 'cause it was too hot (hey wait, I had a warthog picture. Where did it go...? o.O)... gorillas...
These were fun to watch running around
Hottentot ducks and pretty fish
And this is the last one I have uploaded from that.
After we finished walking the forest, we hoofed it to Asia, where we saw monkeys swinging on ropes. It was freaking hot at this point, so we got in line for the Kali River Rapids ride. Which was a REALLY long wait, but Fast Past didn't have us coming back until 5 pm, which was way too far away. I took some pictures along that line...

TERRIFYING EXPRESSION
Okay, this one. It's really hard to see, but there's a little lizard on that vine-thing to the left of the twin trees! It's about level with the end of the leafy vine on the left-most tree. I tried to tag it on Facebook, but even then it's only a general area.
Mom took this picture (you can tell hers by the date stamp...) of one of the carvings on the wood panels they had in one of the buildings along the way.
Another cool light. Also, the upper walls and ceiling had illustrations of tales. You can sort of see some of them.
Snake fountain
When we got on, most of the other people were one family, and the father... oh, man, I could see Mom's face, she wanted to chew him out. He was very... commanding. His wife had her shoes on, and he demanded she take them off and put them in the stay-dry container in the middle of the raft, and she didn't want to, and HE ACTUALLY STARTED COUNTING DOWN like she was a kid or something. What the hell? But Mom got soaked and I at least got damp (there's always one "dry" seat...), so we felt better! we went off to... Dinosaur land. Why do they have Dinosaurs? BECAUSE WHY NOT?
We got a Fast Pass ticket to the Dinosaur ride, then went and had lunch. Burgers and fries, nothing real fancy or anything, but we were hungry and it was right there. BUT THEN DINOSAUR. Dino! Since we'd Fast Pass'd it, we could just walk in, but! Oh, I wish I'd taken its picture! On the window right at the beginning of the line, there was a huge, beautiful blue dragonfly! He was tucked into a corner. I picked him up and took him outside, where he seemed much happier!
The ride itself was AWESOME. It was inside, and you piled into a vehicle (it ran on a track, no driver like the Safari one) and went through the dark, DINO-FILLED jungle! Looking for THE LAST DINO! And the meteor was coming! AND WE GOT CHASED! haha, oh, man, there's this part where you's just got away, and then - AUGH! - ANOTHER ONE (carnosaur? I don't remember, huge meat-eating thing) jumped out right next to us and ROARED and of course that's when the take the pictures. XD So there were some hilarious ones on the screens. One woman was all bug eyes and screaming and PHYSICALLY COVERING HER CHILD oh man, Mom and I were nearly crying at that one.
AT SOME POINT WE PASSED THIS HORROR. asdhfejlkgrth Ecco, leave me alone.
And these things were everywhere.
I think from there we went to Expedition Everest? Gets a little fuzzy... LET'S PRETEND THAT IS THE ANSWER? We had a Fast Pass for this one, too... Anyway, you go on this coaster, and when you reach the top, the track breaks off, all twisted and RUINED and then - YOU GO BACKWARDS! But, unlike every other "it goes backwards!" coaster I've ever been on, this one doesn't just retread where you've been! It veers off in a completely different direction! IT WAS AWESOME. And then you stop again and see - oh no! The yeti! And it tears up some more track (you only see its silhouette) and then you go forward again and it is so much fun. This one and the Dinosaur one are the two Mom and I went back to ride again before we left.
We headed back towards Discovery Island for the "It's Tough to be a Bug" thing, but the parade was about to start! So we decided to watch that first. AND IT WAS AWESOME. The... not floats. Whatever. Animal. Things. WERE SO COOL. My batteries died halfway through, so I stole Mom's camera, which is why half of them have the date.
While we were waiting, Mom threw this at me.

I took some pictures, but most of them didn't come out great, and also I took some videos! So I will put there here, but first more birds being EVERYWHERE.
Before the show, they split us into four groups - the lions, the warthogs, the giraffes, and the elephants, and we each had a hand motion and noise to make to welcome the characters in. We were in the elephant section! The show was singing songs from it and dancing and it was really cool. NOW PICS AND VIDEOS.

And then we rode the Everest and Dinosaur rides again and then we went back to the hotel! We were both tiiired, but Mom wanted to go check out the pools. No time to swim, since the closed at 9, but we looked around them. And on the way back, we saw a mockingbird, who was kind enough to let me creep right up to him to take a picture. :D
Once I'd taken that shot (I took like 12 trying to get a good one, slowly getting closer with each failure...) and turned around, he hopped down into the brush.
For dinner, Mom and I went back out to Disney Downtown and had sandwiches, which were pretty tasty! Though the trucks over the toy store next door keep BEEPING and it was making me go AAAUGH. Then after dinner we went to the pin shop and bought pins. I got myself a Pixar lamp pin and - this one is amazing - A STORMTROOPER WEARING MICKEY EARS. That picture will go up later, though. The STUFF WHAT I GOT pics will be in the BotCon entry.
AND THEN WE WENT BACK TO THE HOTEL AGAIN eventually because the bus took FOR EVER and we passed out.
Okay, that is so ridiculously long. The good news is, Animal Kingdom had, by far, the most pictures. A solid half, at least. So I might be able to fit the rest into one entry tomorrow, or maybe it'll be another two more, but either way, it will not be as ridiculously long as this one. Waugh. @_@
And if you don't care or just want to see all the pictures NOW, Disney / non-BotCon pics are all in this album and BotCon pics are all in THIS album!
oh god i hope i did all those links correctly OR RATHER THAT LJ DOESN'T EAT THEM, WHICH IT DID, AND IT TOOK ME HALF AN HOUR TO FIX THEM ALL. (And I don't even know that I caught them all, but at least it's not full of ERROR messages now.) Man, I hope someone actually reads these. Otherwise this was an epic waste of time an energy. XD
So, yeah! Tuesday! Wake up! Get in the car! Go to the airport! There were a whole lot of military folk shipping out, was kind of odd to see. Puerto Rico?!?! WHAAA people from my home! yay! totally not surprised...the short sotry of that is that disney steals our young people and makes them work for them at a low price in apts with up to 10 people. I am not joking.. this happens in disney world so.. they get tons of free tickets for themselves and family. Also could be some random family and not you know related to the Disney/PR slave trade =p Also I wonder if they were from my old college... we had a great choir and they went to canada and the US, maybe also some places in europe?
GAH the mirrors AHHHHH! too many >_> ps I want the soap =p

I have the soundtrack somewhere on a cd... or I lost it when my last comp crashed. if I find it again I'll give you a zip of it. It's pretty cool and scar is so much creepier.. especially since he wants to get it on with Nala.. ew..
