That's productive.

I have been spending my afternoons marathoning Doctor Who. I do not know why, but four, maybe five days ago I started in with series one (of the reboot, I mean) and now I'm almost finished with three. (Actually, I feel a bit bad, because I'm kind of glad this one's almost done. I adore Martha as an individual, but I don't like her much at all as a companion, for as much sense as that may make.) (... There are a lot more two-parters than I remember.) (AUGH BLINK)

Really, self, what?

So not only am I behaving oddly in that I am watching loads of episodes all in a row, it's of a show I've already seen and is not one that, aside from greatly enjoying, I've ever given much in the way of obsessing to. Next you know I'll be looking for fanfiction.

I hope my voice and hearing and balance are all back by the time I run out, because then what? Though I do at least have shows I haven't watched yet. (So, uh, why aren't you just watching those now? I don't know! Because for whatever reason I'm marathoning Doctor Who! Didn't we already have this conversation?)

On a completely unrelated note, did LJ tweak their look a bit, or has my browser simply lost its mind? When I click to view entries, for example, the top of the entry - date, time, name, user pic - is buried somewhere under the LJ menu-bar thing. Looks like this, to use this previous entry as an example.

I've never been able to get through the second series, because I loved the Nine/Rose(/Jack) dynamic so much, and I felt like it was all messed up and that made me really sad. Would you say it's worth it to stick it out?

Lately I've been rewatching Cowboy Bebop!

[identity profile] twilit-wanderer.livejournal.com 2009-07-18 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
Augh, I know! That was such a hard transition! I would say it is worth it, though! Ten and Rose have a very different dynamic, but I still really like their interactions. There are some really neat episodes, too.

Cowboy Bebop is excellent! Maybe I should add rewatching that to the list. Hrm.

[identity profile] thebaconfat.livejournal.com 2009-07-18 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmmmmm. I'll think about it.

What's on the list at the moment?

[identity profile] twilit-wanderer.livejournal.com 2009-07-18 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
It has some good episodes with Mickey! (If you like Mickey? If not, then I guess that's more a warning! But either way.)

In absolutely no particular order: Utena, Noir, rewatching Trigun and maybe Evangelion, finish rewatching Star Trek: The Next Generation, catching back up with Top Gear (though I think I'm only two behind right now), still debating if I want to start on the FMA anime reboot, maybe searching out more Buffy (... there's another one I've made no mention of), and part of me really wants to rewatch either some Beast Wars or Transformers: Animated (it'll probably be BW, since I have that on DVD). Or possibly track down some Stargate SG-1. Aniko has mentioned a couple shows that sound interesting, too, but I already have that and a mountain of video games to get through, so I dunno if I'm willing to commit to any of them.

[identity profile] thebaconfat.livejournal.com 2009-07-19 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Utenaaaaa. Oh man, I really want to rewatch ST:TNG, but I'm broke, and have this whole conflict about ordering a Netflix before I actually, er, watched all of the DVDs that I own. How much have Buffy have you seen? Because if you have to work to find anything past the fourth season, it may not be worh it. (Though the fifth season does have one of my favourite episodes of all time.) I am really wanting to rewatch Trigun lately, but I should probably finish Cowboy Bebop first, and yes! I also have a mountain of video games.
Have you read the FMA manga at all? Because while I'm enjoying watching the manga scenes all animated and whatnot, it's full of spoilers and the manga is way better.

[identity profile] twilit-wanderer.livejournal.com 2009-07-21 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
For Buffy, I've only seen through the second season, though I've also seen one or two random other episodes from later seasons at the insistence of others. Seasons 1-3 are on Hulu (hey, 3 wasn't there last time I looked! Cool), so maybe they'll add more again. (HOW DO VIDEO GAMES PILE UP LIKE THAT?)

I have not read the manga. I loved the original anime and everyone says the manga is better, but I ... have not. It may be a lame excuse, but I don't want to have to keep paying for it because I can't afford the really long stories (Fruits Basket just ended and while I'm a bit sad, I am also relieved, since augh manga costs too much), and the libraries don't carry it. But that is good to consider! Because one day I will eventually get my hands on it!

[identity profile] thebaconfat.livejournal.com 2009-07-22 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Oh! Is Fruits Basket good? Should I check it out? And man,I know what you mean about funding a manga habit. The only reason I've actually read FMA is because they have it at the library! Have you tried that? I wish there was such a thing as Netflix for books. Where the had a huge selection and got delivered right to your door.

[identity profile] twilit-wanderer.livejournal.com 2009-07-22 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
My mother and I both really enjoyed it! I'd say definitely check out the first volume or two, if you can. And, hey, since it's finished now, you wouldn't need to wonder how long you'll be waiting for the next volume to come out (I always hate that part). The library I checked didn't carry manga (LAME LAME LAME) but maybe the other one does. I haven't found myself over there yet, though. Hopefully it will?

That would be amazing. You'd probably have to use those weird digital-things, though, because otherwise people'd beat the poor books to a pulp. Torn or even missing covers and pages, augh.

(ALSO I FORGOT TO MENTION but [livejournal.com profile] rionaleonhart's recommendation is pretty excellent. THE MASTER AND DONNA ARE TOO AWESOME TO NOT BE SEEN.)

[identity profile] thebaconfat.livejournal.com 2009-07-22 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Awesome, I will see if they have it next time I'm at the library!

(Haha, good to get a second opinion on that! Thank you!)

[identity profile] twilit-wanderer.livejournal.com 2009-07-22 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Whoo \o/ I'd say let me know what you think of it, if they do have it, but that might be a bit hypocritical considering my bizarre silence over the last couple things I've watched/read/played/etc. Er. I HOPE YOU LIKE IT? IF THEY HAVE IT?

What I would suggest is skipping series two and three and going straight to the fourth series. By that point, not one of the actors from the first series remains, so you can pretend you're watching something entirely different and you don't get the sense of 'noooo, it's Rose but the Doctor is wrong'. (The second series is my least favourite.) Also, the fourth series has Donna, and I love her an insane amount.

(Miiight be best not to watch the last episode, though. I don't know. There were some unpopular decisions.)

Actually, don't skip the third series entirely. The third series (also devoid of actors from the first) has weak moments, but I seem to remember 'Smith and Jones' and 'The Shakespeare Code' being worth watching, and perhaps 'Human Nature'/'The Family of Blood', and 'Blink' is amazing, and you have to watch 'Utopia', 'The Sound of Drums' and 'Last of the Time Lords' (but especially 'The Sound of Drums') because THE MASTER THE MASTER I LOVE HIM.

But yes, do watch the fourth series, because Donna is possibly my favourite Doctor Who character of all. (She makes her first appearance in 'The Runaway Bride', a Christmas special between series two and three, so watching that might make sense.)

Ah, alright then! Thank you! I really am curious about this The Master fellow.
