Anyone for Las Vegas?

Serious inquiry:

The FFXIV FanFest is in Las Vegas this October, the weekend before TFCon Chicago (which is to say, the 18^th and the 19^th).

I desperately want to go.

However, I don't particularly fancy the thought of going to Las Vegas completely by myself, my FC members don't seem real interested in attending (though they are more than happy to pile souvenir requests on me), Mom's already planning on hitting Chicago with me, and Dad's already been to Las Vegas (not that I am really that interested in going anywhere with him). Soo...

I've already got a room at the Rio (where the convention is taking place) for the night of Friday (the 17^th) and Saturday (the 18^th). I plan on flying in Friday night after work, then taking a red-eye home Sunday night.


Is anyone interested in spending a weekend in Vegas?

I "might"? Even though I'm not interested in Final Fantasy (well, I used to be), but I might consider this. How much are the con tickets?

Tickets aren't actually on sale yet. Since the FanFest is XIV-specific (their more recent MMO, previously a complete disaster), they're opening sales for active subscribers on the 8^th of July, and then on the fifteenth they open to anyone. They are not cheap - $120 a head, looks like. But aaaa this game. And I've always regretted not being able to attend the FFXI FanFests they used to hold. I can't miss it. I will die. DEAD FROM WOE.

Hmm, my brother's not interesting in going, but I wonder if he'd be willing to foot the registration fee for someone in exchange for getting any in-game loot...

*crawls out of the woodwork* I think I saw you post this on fb too and I've been thinking about it since then. I'm not that far away and weekends in Vegas are the best.

I don't play XIV and I generally fell out of the FF fandom a while back too, but I'd prolly be interested in joining you outside the con! (for $120 I'd rather go see a show or two, personally) Are you looking for a roomie in particular or just someone to hang out with?

Yeah, I can't fault you for having better things to spend that much money on, haha. I would really love to have someone willing to help me with the room! Hanging out in the evenings is also cool, though. :D

I still love the FF franchise, I just haven't played any of the newer games. If it wasn't so expensive, I would totally go in with you. I can help with the room, tho! +1 Molly. :3

Which game did you leave off at?

The highest number I played was 9, technically. The last one I was really IN to was 7 and all the assorted spinoffs, so I guess the most recent would be Crisis Core? I tried 8 and barely made it into the first disc. Anything 10 and newer I haven't touched at all.

Oh nooo Crisis Core. DX I loved that game but god damn SE could you maybe not completely break my heart next time?

If you ever get a chance, you should at leave give 10 a shot! I really enjoyed that one, even if people do give the voice cast crap.

So a friend of mine who also plays XIV who is a guy wants to come, but hotel = super expensive, and he's already flying over from Australia. Would it be okay with you if he crashes with us (obviously paying a portion of the hotel fee)?

I might be persuaded. =) My brother and his partner live in Vegas - I can crash at their place if they don't already have other company (couldn't go one time I'd thought about it b/c Partner's parents were visiting the same weekend and taking the guest room). I don't really know anything about FF, but worst comes to worst, I can hang out at Bro's place during the days while you're at the con, then go be goofy with you in the evenings. =3

You definitely should do this thing! And if they're busy you should just join me in the hotel room! SUPER FANCY VEGAS HOTEL or ... ssssomething? I have never been in it, so I cannot say for sure.

I wouldn't be able to afford to put towards the room, is the only thing. That weekend is between paychecks for me as well as being right before TFCon Chicago. I'll pretty much just be spending gas and groceries.

Will TOTES hang out, though!

And LOL yeah . . . I won't pay LJ anything anymore, so I only have a handful of my icons available anymore. BUT . . . LJ's not blocked on my computer at work (DW is) so sometimes I'll reply to people's LJ post instead of their DW, especially if I know I'll be busy in the evenings and might not get to email/LJ/DW/etc for a few days.
