Hot weather kills brain cells.

uuuugh, this weather is unbearable. ...Actually, it is almost cool right now. Almost. But mostly my life these days consists of staying inside in the dark with a fan going as much as humanly possible, then taking the bus to work because getting to work soaked through with sweat does not sound like an especially good idea. And then I come home and check my email and then try to avoid using the computer anymore because aaaugh heat.

And I guess lately I have just had nothing to say, or not motivation to type it up at all, or something. Bad brain? Or bad body? I've been feeling a bit under the weather lately. Whatever. I'm still not really feeling like I have anything worth posting, but...

Borders is closing foreverrrr, I am so sad. Now where will I go to buy my books?? There is another bookstore near me, too, but that can be difficult. Carries mostly used (not all, but mostly). Good for browsing and all, but not always good for when you go in needing something specific. And also no music or movies or lovely journals or other neat things. Sorrow, sorrow.

... Hey, though, since this means there's a "going out of business" sale, I was wondering if anyone's got any recommendations of books (I will read most any genre, though I tend to avoid romance)/ authors, music, DVDs, or whatall else I might be able to find?

Aw man, it's closing down? Going to the local Giant Bookstore and wandering around is one of my favourite things to do. I like checking out the little used bookstores too, but they're never as organized and it just gets overwhelming. Anyways, if you end up resorting to buying books online, I highly recommend Better World Books (http://www.betterworldbooks.com/).

As for recs, hmmm. I really want to rec the Fullmetal Alchemist managa at you because it's amaaazing but I know buying manga series is super expensive. Which is why I don't own FMA and haven't picked up the last volume because I want to reread the rest of it first and can't bring myself to spend that much money all at once, blaaah. Oh! You should read Joanne Harris' Runemarks! It is lots of fun and does not have any romance in it. Oh, and you might check out Philip Reeve's Mortal Engines. It has some badass and very morally ambiguous ladies in it.

It is leaving me all alone. I will never throw away my rewards card. (... possibly that is kind of creepy.) I will miss wasting hours on end just browsing. That looks like a really awesome site, though, so thanks for the link!

I would really, really like to read FMA someday, but, man, it is long and, yes, expensive, so if I ever find time to get to it, I'm going to just have to hope the local library's got it (I think it does? I cannot remember). But I will definitely look for those other two! (It is not that I have anything against romance, it is just that so often it seems shoehorned in and is badly done, and that kind of ticks me off a lot.)

I totally know what you mean about romance. I'm finding lately that I'll be reading the summary on the back of a book and I'll be look, ooh! This has a potentially awesome female character having adventures! And it gets to the paragraph about her tense alliance with some moody, attractive dude with a mysterious past and I immediately lose all interest in reading the book.

(Unrelated: your icon is so pretty!)

Well, now, come on, let's be fair. Sometimes she's just having adventures ...and also she has a dear childhood friend who is "just like a brother" until about the halfway point in the story.

(Thanks! I am a bit ridiculously fond of all my XIV icons, but that one is my favourite of the bunch.)
