WE ARE RETURNED
No plane crashes! Or anything else horrid and painful!
So, my trip, in brief, since I have to leave for work soon. Friday morning! Mostly boring. Mom's carry on bag doesn't zip right, so we had a fun time arm-wrestling it open so she could take out her bag of liquids (shampoo, etc) for security, but that was pretty much it. Then we just sat around bored for an hour while we waited for our flight. Uneventful flight, and then we had a bunch of hours to kill in JFK, where we mostly wondered at all the people flying in what looked like clothing that would be uncomfortable to spend hours on. Short skirts, high-heeled sandals... But what do we know? Our second flight took off late, but we made amazing time and arrived early. (We left 20 minutes late, we arrive 25 minutes ahead of schedule.) The flight itself was - well, we hit a lot of turbulence, but it wasn't extreme, just kinda like driving on a dirt road or something. I did get some writing done! I still need to type it up and work out the kinks.
We stopped on the way to my grandmother's house to grab some dinner, then Mom and I both kinda crashed, since it was 1 am according to our internal clocks and travel makes for a long day.
Saturday was up at 7:30, a long line for the single shower (all four of the people in the house needed it...), and then a 3 hour drive to the church where the service was! And then we had a full church service, which was way, way different from what my father's relatives have all had. But my great grandmother was pretty religious, so I guess it makes sense. Anyway, after the service, there was a long "everyone sit around and eat this food and talk to all these relatives - except you, Jecca, you can just sit there awkwardly while everyone ignores you. There's a good girl." (Slight exaggeration, three of my cousins did actually speak to me this time!) And theeen, when that was finally over, we drove to someone's house so people could go through her belongings... and then most of them went out for dinner, but it was late, so we went home. And again stopped for dinner along the way. And then went straight to bed because it was late and we were tired.
SUNDAY WAS BETTER BECAUSE
mysticeden and I had managed to make plans and so we went out and went to a Japanese bakery and grocery store and had falafels and banana shakes (sooo goooooood) and went to a LEGO STORE IT WAS AWESOME I WANT ONE HERE, and also we went to a farmer's market and had delicious strawberries, and also PINK CAR IS MINE (by "pink car" I mean Animated Arcee) HAHAHAHA.
And then it went back to failure land because I had to go out for lunch/dinner with relatives and there was a lot of drama and people coming too late or leaving way early because they were angry or upset and people being ridiculously picky and unhappy with the food and rehgtjklhfn.
Also, dear lord, okay, see. In the circles I run in, in my normal life, anyway, I don't see a lot of blatantly racist/homophobic/transphobic/ETC stuff. I mean, yeah, it happens, anyway, because society kinda sucks like that, but APPARENTLY MY RELATIVES ARE ALL BIGOTS which was kind of nice to discover. By nice I mean pretty much anything but. They don't realise it, of course, which just makes it worse. Mom and I kept calling them on it, but I suspect it made no difference. And now I want to say I am sorry to the world on their behalf.
ANYWAY, then we rushed home and packed and went back to the airport... plane was late... also, a massive group of eighth graders was on our flight, and they were kind of annoying! And, ugh, we were in the last row, which is always kinda miserable and loud and slightly more off-smelling than the rest of the plane. And the stuff Mom takes to knock herself out only knocks me flat, so I spent most of the flight miserable and tired and unable to sleep and unable to creak my eyes open to do anything to entertain myself.
JFK again... boring, but at that point I was too tired to care. We got home, I came back here and napped for almost two and a half hours, and then I had to get up and go to work.
Where all the panning had been left for me. AUGH. (Fortunately, my coworker who was in was able to help me, because I would not have been able to get it all done otherwise.)
And then last night I pretty much went straight to bed after dinner and slept until, like, noon. SO TIRED. Still tired. But not to the point of being unable to function anymore. WORK AGAIN NOW.
Maybe pictures later, after work.
