NERVES, if you'd rather. We are sorry. My brain has defaulted to Al Bhed again. (Actually, it's a bizarre Spanish and Al Bhed mashup, which is even worse. "Estamos cunno," indeed.) I will try to type in English.
It's just caught up with me fully. It's a little over two weeks to BotCon and I am starting to stress out a bit. My parents still have the disposable phone they bought for my brother back in November when he drove himself back to campus alone (for the first time) in a blizzard. They're sending it with me, but I don't know how to answer it.
I've tried, but of course to make it ring, I have to dial it and, while watching me try to dial one phone while trying to answer another is probably hilarious, it is not something I appear to be at all capable of. Curse you, rotary phone. And when I have my parents home, they always just show me rather than letting me actually answer it, which is the only way I'll reliably learn it. So I'm going to go to Cincinnati with a phone that I can barely even turn on, never mind answer or use to call someone with. HELP AUGH.
Also, transportation from the terminal. I have never in my life hailed a cab. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO DO THESE THINGS I LIVE IN VERMONT. I can navigate subway systems in Japan and Montreal, and I even managed the Japanese bus system (why was I able to figure out everything in Japan when none of it was in English? I will never understand that), but I don't know the first thing about getting a taxi and getting them to take me somewhere.
Doesn't help that the only time I've been in a taxi, the driver nearly killed all of us several times. That was a horrifying night.
Also, despite the amount of travel I've done, I have never actually gone anywhere completely by myself. AAAAH!
Any help or advice or anything anyone has to offer would be greatly appreciated.

*Not saying this will happen! But it has happened to me before and I was like AAH AHH WHAT DO I DO but I talked to the lady behind the counter and everything turned out fine and I got to my destination a little late, but I am still here, alive, able to tell you my tale.
And there's nothing you need to know about getting a cab to take you somewhere! Just hop in, tell him, "I wanna go to (insert destination here)," and he will do all the work for you! Just keep an eye on the meter and have some cash ready to pay him when you reach where you're going.
And make sure you bring your iPod or some comics or a book to read or something, to help keep your brain occupied on the plane!
I guess all I can really tell you is try to think of it as an adventure! I get anxious about a lot (and I do mean a lot of stuff), but I find it helps when I'm traveling to focus on all the cool stuff I'll get to do one I get where I'm going, and channel my anxiety into excitement! The two have a lot in common.
Also sometimes it helps to pretend I am Indiana Jones, on my way to an exotic land to steal rare artifacts from horrible Nazis.

My tiny mp3 player is all ready to go! It's never been on a trip before! I hope it is excited. Also, I hope my very old discman doesn't feel like I'm shunning it by leaving it home for the first time in like twelve years. Well, my camera hasn't seemed too upset about the digital camera going places with me, so hopefully that'll all work out okay.
It's weird! I have done so much traveling. I spend like half my childhood on airplanes or in airports! I never get anxious about travel! So I think that I am now is making me freak out extra. Not that knowing why helps any but ARG.

AND YOU HAD BETTER COME BACK WITH PHOTOS AND STORIES!
Re: also also
I AM INFAMOUS FOR MAKING LONG AND IMAGE-HEAVY TRAVEL STORIES POSTS. That's a complete lie! I don't think I'm infamous for anything! I just felt like saying that.
ALSO THANK YOU even though I am replying to this comment first and it might make slightly more sense to tack this in somewhere else...

I hope this helps :) I haven't decided yet if I'm going to cab or shuttle yet. I'll probably decide closer to the date and once I know if anyone else is arriving on Wednesday.
