I'm still using this list for my msq count!
So I had enough people tell me that that FFXVI event really only needs you to have played the demo, so I did it without having beat the game. It actually seems to take place right after he accepts/realizes that HE'S the other fire dominant he's been looking for, but yeah there's nothing in there that needs you to have played past the demo.
(To pinpoint it, it takes place in the gap between the following two paragraphs:

I keep expecting a POINT OF NO RETURN warning, but like I still haven't been able to do Echoes of the Fallen (or Leviathan but that just installed today so I wasn't expecting it to be immediately obvious) and SURELY they wouldn't gate that behind actually finishing the game. I know the description said what msq has to be completed but I have no brain so I don't remember. But we gotta be getting close.
So I popped back to the hideaway mostly to do a hunt mark check, since I noticed there's a couple on the map that I missed and. CLIVE YOU AREN'T SUPPOSED TO PUT THE MEDICINE CHEST ON YOUR WALL OF MEMORIES.
Also lol the Odin weapon is worse than the one I'm using currently.
I, too, have a lot of questions about this goblin here in Ash. Like, where was it when I was up here earlier. How DID it cross the straight? Why doesn't it have a stagger gauge? Alas, we will never know.
I was gonna make some comments about this lizard being called Agni when he's not even a fire bender but no okay there we go, he can breathe firewater at least.

It's one of the weirdest decisions Soken has ever made, but it's like the Overworld theme from the original FF. It also got used during the final chat with Clive and Josh's mom before she killed herself. (The track is "Bloodlines" on the OST.)
Like usually when Soken remixes old FF tracks there feels like some kinda purpose to it but I've never been able to figure this one out because it just feels really incongruous and took me out of every scene it was in, but I think it's also because I just have such strong childhood memories of it as being a happy adventuring song.
Also about the bit where they crash through the wall and everyone shows up, I had the briefest, happiest hope that we were gonna have a proper group/party go and storm the Mothercrystal together, and then it got dashed.
Like there are a lot of things I really did honestly enjoy about this game, but there are times when it's like... there was this great thing! This really good opportunity! Why didn't they take it?!
(And I get, like, story reasons for this one, as Ultima needed to talk to the brothers alone, but. Still.)

I was gonna shoot crap about Ultima's reminiscence about when the world was "good" but it was bad actually and getting it back would kill everyone being the inspiration but that doesn't explain ANABELLA at all unless something something childhood, awfulness, idek. At this point I think the "he didn't get chicken so he went looney" makes as much sense.
