They just finished the story line for the game as-is. There's an expansion coming out soon, which will have another story, but they had to wrap the current one up.
Remember when 1.0/FFXIV Original ended and they dropped a moon and I was distressed? They must have decided, oh, well, we dropped rocks and everyone due last time. HOW DO WE TOP THAT?
Anyway, you know how sometimes in games there are characters that are important to you and to the story, even though they're not necessarily in your party? And how you really like them, because they're awesome and wonderful, and you're really glad they ask survived the moon dragon apocalypse and are still relevant to the story and there's no way they'd get rid of almost the entire supporting cast, right?
And then suddenly you've been framed for murder and you all try to escape but things happen and now they're all either definitely dead because you saw them die or they're definitely probably dead but you haven't seen a body and god damn it let me have my delusions EVERYONE IS FINE I WILL GATHER THEM ALL TO MY BOSOM AND KEEP THEM SAFE FOREVER?
Specific One of them will probably turn up again. The others, though, I just, I can't see how... I want to believe. TT__TT My poor babies.
(You heard that. I... have not yet figured out quite what my feelings about it are. A new expansion! Exciting! ... THE LAST EXPANSION. FEAR. Vana'diel has, so far and BY far, had happier story endings than Eorzea, but...)
A KIND FC MEMBER REMINDED ME at least one other of them (my favouritttte) is probably alive, since she's being used a lot in marketing. I mean, that's not a guarantee, but it's a pretty good argument, even if it DOESN'T make a lot of sense, considering what we last saw.
(aaaugh I went and talked to her sister and her sister doesn't know and I CAN'T TELL HER but if she's okay maybe I shouldn't be like hey I think your sister maybe died horribly a bit earlier, but shouldn't someone let her know?
