Short cat update.
He seems to be adjusting very well! Apparently, before I got home Saturday night, he had a bit of a fright (he is oddly afraid of the door opening, so when Aniko got home, he got scared and went to run under/behind the couch, but in doing so he ran between our two DVD shelves and knocked over the spare florescent bulb for the kitchen light that'd been standing there, which made a considerable racket, I presume) and, while I thought he would calm down and come out on his own, well. Aniko and I both worked all day Sunday, and when I got home, none of the food had been touched and he was still crammed under the couch staring bug-eyed at anyone who peered under at him.
I'd nudged some kitty treats under to him before going to bed the night before, and those, at least, had disappeared, but now we had a Situation. The cat is evidently too terrified to come out from under the sofa! No! Kitty! I tried calling him and leaving a few treats at the edge of the sofa, but no luck. TIME FOR EXTREME MEASURES. I opened a can of tuna and set the tuna water down, pinned up the little flap that goes around the couch (like a bed skirt but for a sofa, kind of?), put the flashlight down so it was lit up, but not so the beam was pointing at him, and called him some more. The tuna worked, thankfully, and while he still will not eat the kibble, he is eating the canned food and drinking the water. Mom brought me a bunch of kibble samples from what we've got around for Diana, so hopefully there'll be something he likes.
She also brought some toys and, unlike Diana, he will actually play with them.
So he is used to me (LAPCAT ATTACK seriously, as soon as I sit down - BAM, CAT - and then he headbutts my hands whenever I try to do anything. Pet me, pet me, pet me! It is cute, but I see potential for it to become annoying. OH WELL I HAVE A CAT), and he is used to my room and the living room, but he will pretty much NOT go into the kitchen at all, and it took a lot of coaxing (and me refusing to come out) before we could get him into Aniko's room the first time. He didn't want anything to do with her at first (maybe associated her with DOOR AND LIGHTBULB TRAUMA, because he liked her just fine at the Humane Society), but he is warming up to her now.
Hurray!
Have not successfully located a vet yet, though. The one a block and a half away (who is cheap! Because they are cash-only) is not accepting new clients until September, which, I dunno, what if something comes up? So I am going to call some of the still close but not as close other people around and see if I have more luck.
