Don't worry about hailing a cab from a terminal! At every good-sized airport I've been to, there've been plenty of cabs just lined up outside waiting to pick people up. And the airport people are super helpful and now all about where to go and what to do. If you get lost or don't know where to find a cab, or a phone, or even if you have a crazy problem with your plane getting delayed,* just march over to anybody behind a counter or wearing a nametag and they'll be able to either help you out or point you to someone who can.
*Not saying this will happen! But it has happened to me before and I was like AAH AHH WHAT DO I DO but I talked to the lady behind the counter and everything turned out fine and I got to my destination a little late, but I am still here, alive, able to tell you my tale.
And there's nothing you need to know about getting a cab to take you somewhere! Just hop in, tell him, "I wanna go to (insert destination here)," and he will do all the work for you! Just keep an eye on the meter and have some cash ready to pay him when you reach where you're going.
And make sure you bring your iPod or some comics or a book to read or something, to help keep your brain occupied on the plane!
I guess all I can really tell you is try to think of it as an adventure! I get anxious about a lot (and I do mean a lot of stuff), but I find it helps when I'm traveling to focus on all the cool stuff I'll get to do one I get where I'm going, and channel my anxiety into excitement! The two have a lot in common.
Also sometimes it helps to pretend I am Indiana Jones, on my way to an exotic land to steal rare artifacts from horrible Nazis.
