eew

I was petting my dog this afternoon when I felt a bump behind his right ear. Now, my dog is an older black lab, so bumps aren't entirely unexpected, but this one felt... funny. Less like a bump and more like something sticking up from the skin. I brushed the fur around to try and see it better, but the room I was sitting in was a little dark, so I pointed it out to Mom that the dog had a funny bump on his head then went to get lunch.

She pulled him out into the kitchen after a few minutes and searched around while I pointed where it was. We finally located the bump and... Okay, we weren't sure what it was at first. It looked like some kind of maggot that was burrowing up out of his skull. There was blood crusted around it, and it was bit and fat and white. It was disgusting. I let Mom deal with it. >.<


Turned out to be a thoroughly gorged tick. We pulled it out - we think we got the head, too - and are going to take it to get it checked tomorrow.


I keep picturing that thing in my mind and having to wash my hands. I'm not sure why washing my hands helps. Uuugh. *washes hands again*

Then I tell my brother about this over IM and he immediately links me to a youTube thing of some poor woman with a giant worm maggot in her skull.

I can't even imagine. I'd freak out something awful if they pulled anything like that out of my head. ... I'm freaking out watching it. Ew. ew. *incoherent*
