Spiiiin!

LAST NIGHT WAS MY DANCE RECITAL. You know, for the dance class I've been taking.

Because that is always how these things go, my parents wanted to come but could not be ready to leave on time. NO, DAD. 5:15 is when we leave, not when you start programming the VCRs to record all ten thousand five shows you need to watch.

So we got out the door late, and then I remembered I hadn't remembered the crinoline because it had been moved from where I'd put it! So we had to turn around and fetch it. SO I WAS TEN MINUTES LATE TO THE PRACTICE RUN. (We started at 6, the recital didn't start until 7:30.)

Fortunately, other people were later.

Unfortunately, two people would not be dancing. One was injured, one was really sick with the nasty bug that's been going around. They were both there, they just weren't dancing. Also, one of them was my partner for one of the dances, so there was a lot of last-minute shuffling of partners and places and it was all very confusing.

We were also still totally mangling some of the dances in the last run through, but what can you do at that point? YOU CAN RUN AND GET INTO YOUR HIP-HOP DANCE OUTFIT OKAY. (I came in mine. One less outfit to worry about, one less time to change.) Our hip-hip outfit was black bottoms, colourful tops, and we danced to "Closer" by Ne-Yo.

That one actually went fairly well, despite half of us having had to totally readjust to where we were and how we turned to when we did the partner stuff. I like to imagine I helped that somewhat, because I know the hip-hop dance really well, so I was stomping my feet extra loud so people could keep track of the beat.

I had my solo between the first and second group dance, so after we finished hip-hop, I ran to get into my solo outfit. I picked Ayumi Hamasaki's "Tasking" song, because it is short, has a definite beginning and ending, and is pretty. My outfit was... uh. For the bottom half, I have these... I do not know what to call them. They tie in the front and back and have definite separate legs, but they look weird and I don't know. They're made from pretty blue-purple fabric. And Mom made me get a matching purple top with an annoying neck and no sleeves. AND I MOSTLY JUST PANICKED. Guys, I am so awful at getting up in front of people by myself. In a group, I'll do pretty well, but put me out there by myself and I will, at least internally, freak right the hell out.

BUT EVERYONE SEEMED TO REALLY LIKE IT SO I GUESS IT WENT OKAY. I thought I messed up something awful right near the end, but my brother told me to make Mom record it with my camera, so I went back and rewatched it and it doesn't show too much, if at all. Mom said she didn't see it, and she's been watching me practice my solo (and helping me choreograph it, actually) for the past month or so, so I guess she'd know.

I can't comment on any of the other three solos that went during then, because I was changing during them, though apparently the second one (the one right before mine, and it was actually one of the two duets) didn't go so well. The really sick girl was one of them, and she'd come to dance in that one only, because it'd not go well for her partner if she didn't. But she wasn't feeling well and all that awful stuff, so she messed up. And then she couldn't breathe, which is the bigger deal, really (she was okay, though! She managed to catch her breath again). But apparently the first and fourth solos both went well.

NEXT WAS THE TAP DANCE. I really liked the tap dance. CLICK CLICKY SHOES HEEHEE! (Same bottoms as hip-hop, white button-down shirts, tie - my tie was black, but lots of people had patterned ones and stuff.) That one went.... mm. Okayish. Pretty well, but not as well as the first one. Because no one can keep a beat and they kept speeding up. Also, I messed up near the end, because I still cannot count to three I do the same thing in the Latin dance, I do not know why this is a problem. We walk forward three steps, do something, walk back three steps, do something, walk forward three again, do something, back one, do something, forward one, do something... I always forget we go back one, I keep going. I got it the second time, at least. >.>;; (This song was "Game Over" from the film New York, New York.)

Then we ran off to get into our "sexy" dresses for the Latin dance (I OWN ONE DRESS. THANKFULLY IT FIT THE COLOUR SCHEME - IT IS BLACK - AND IT IS "SEXY" OR SOMETHING). And ohgod none of us knew how the ending went. We only learned it last week, and only briefly. So the beginning went well, the middle went decently, and then we were all like "lolwat the end?" and mostly just hopped around and looked uncoordinated. OR AT LEAST THAT IS HOW IT FELT, MAYBE IT LOOKED BETTER I DIDN'T WATCH THIS ONE. (This song was "Come Baby Come" from the film Center Stage.)

There were some solos before the Latin dance, too, of course. I missed one of them because changing into dress but one of them was cute (though a little too repetitive, if she'd changed it up a little more or ended it earlier it'd have been perfect, I think) and the other, well. She's been having a lot of trouble with the class, and she kind of looked like she didn't know what she was doing, and she ended at a poor time, but she still did a really great job, and she looked a lot more confident in it than she did last week during class, so! And we were all really proud of her for it.

And then after the Latin dance more solos which I pretty much missed all of except the last one because our outfits for the Swing dance were ridiculous and hard to get into. Twirly skirts, a crinoline to make it poofier and twirlier, and then a 'nice' top. WE LOOKED SO RIDICULOUS IT WAS KIND OF AWFUL.

And then the music started and - haha! False start! So we all glared and went back to our starting spots. Unfortunately, that kind of set the theme for the last dance. For whatever reason, the music kept pausing, so we'd all lose the beat and have to pause or repeat a step or something to get back on track. It did that at least five times, and it was... really frustrating, and I know it at least made me lose track of where we were a couple times. Apparently it looked okay, though, so who knows. (And this song was "Always Gonna Get Ya" by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. It always worked during class, so I dunno what was going on here.)

THEN WE BOWED A LOT. And then we got to go get brownies, and they were omgdelicious. Radio Deli apparently makes the best brownies in the entire world.

Next week we will watch the recording the school made and... I dunno what else. It is weird that the semester is over next week! WHAT?

Anyway, so, possibly if I am feeling brave or stupid (or bored) I will upload the videos my mother took later, but for now I am done talking about this! (They're now up here, but it's currently friends-locked. I'll probably unlock them eventually, if I don't forget... Someone remind me once these aren't the top entries on my journal.)

Edit:
I have access to all 20 jobs available in FFXI now! I just unlocked Scholar and Puppetmaster this afternoon. (I was bored and procrastinating and there was nothing else going on...) I declare Scholar the most easily unlocked job in the world. No fighting, no running around collecting things and talking to people... If you remember to come on a (non-White Mage) mage job and bring the 12 sheets of vellum, you don't even need to move.

Oh MAN that is SO AWESOME that you GOT UP IN FRONT OF PEOPLE AND DANCED! That takes a LOT of guts, man, and it sounds like you did really well even though all kindsa crazy stuff went wrong! AWESOME. And despite the stress it kinda sounds like fun?

I WANT TAP SHOES.

I would love to see videos if you decide to upload them!

IT WAS SCARY but not too horrible because at least I knew what I was doing. I can't practice speeches, so those are always much worse. And it was kind of fun! But I am really glad it's over now, at the same time. Choreographing my own dance was really hard for me, and performance anxiety's never fun. I will miss the actual class, though.

MAN, ME, TOO. We were all borrowing shoes the instructor has, and they didn't fit exactly right, but they were so much fun. *clacks across the floor*

I will be sure to link them if/when I get them up!

You are totally my hero for doing this, just so you know!

Going out shopping at the mall, and like, walking around in lab would be so much more fun with tap shoes.

Hooray!

...I do not have to wear the Dancer AF (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Image:DNCAFFemale.png) as my hero costume, do I?

They are kind of slippery, but once you got used to it, it'd be a blast! You could, I dunno, grapevine down the halls instead of walking. It would be awesome.
