I'm actually not a fan of Buffy until about the 3rd/4th season myself. Second season wasn't *bad* per se, just not my cup of tea so much. The Buffy/Angel angst just annoyed me more then anything. The main baddie of the third season had a fun twist compared to most series villains, he wasn't really completely bad... Then the fourth season I'm biased towards since it has one of the first healthy lesbian relationships ever aired on prime time television. *shrug* I mostly enjoy the series for the later character development and the fun implied/double meanings that a lot of the dialogue and actions take on. (which actually is very intentional on the writers behalf, Joss talks about it in several interviews about how they danced around the censors in fun and creative manners.)
I actually don't know if I've ever watched more then a few eps of the first season myself.
