It's late and I should be asleep!
I have no excuse for this post! It is late and I should be in bed and asleep, but instead I am awake and alternating between pounding text into a word document and Not Dying in FFXI, which is probably why I am now going to be gleeful about FFXI at anyone silly enough to read my deranged ramblings.
I was playing a little, earlier today. Leveling with my brother (I'm trying to take Red Mage to 25 for a couple spells, and he's leveling Samurai to sub on... something. I don't know) in Buburimu, and he died once and I died once, but we each leveled (I leveled twice! But when I died I fell back to 20, haha).
But then I hopped the "other boat" from Mhaura and went East! AL ZAHBI! They introduced this city two years ago (okay, maybe more like one and a half), but I've not spent much time there. Anyway! I love the boat! The music is so pretty! And you pass rocks sticking out of the sea that have hundreds of white sea birds perched on or circling around them! (Off in the Gugru Blue, you can see dolphins, and the original ferry between Selbina and Mhaura can be attacked by pirates. Fun!) So I had a party on the deck of the ferry, since it was just me. There was a Tarutaru running around, but he seemed content to hide in with the captain.
But, no, seriously, the music for this game just gets better for every expansion. I madly adore the Chains of Promathia soundtrack, even when Promyvion is reducing me to a twitching, sobbing mess in the corner (and it never fails to do that). But the music from Treasures of Aht Urhgan (hereafter referred to as ToAU) is so pretty, too! It's got such ... character to it. They could not have chosen better music for Al Zahbi/Whitegate (the main city area). This is the point where I would just spam the entire soundtrack at everyone, but I have learned some measure of self control over the years.
ANYWAY YES. When ToAU came out! Nabiki (this is my brother's main character, by the way) and I packed our things (along with, you know, everyone else on every other server) and hit the ferry! Al Zahbi! For the first time, we have monsters breaking into the city and attacking! Besieged is one of the greatest things ever, and I say that even as someone who hasn't yet gone and earned Mercenary status. I get absolutely nothing for participating in Besieged, aside from the chance to eat city dirt, as opposed to outside dirt, but I love it! I do not go to Al Zahbi often, though, because I am not far enough into the story line (read: NOT INTO IT AT ALL HAHA LAME) to be able to teleport there! (What the hell, Firefox automatic spellcheck? "Teleport" is a word! But then, you do not like "dialogue", either.)
Someone on the Allakhazam forums started a thread taking Journey songs and rewriting them, and now I can't think of Besieged without "Don't stop Besiiieeging~ Hold on to that feeling! Street fight people~" rolling through my head. But I think I can live with this.
(Oh, the cutscene never ends, it goes on and on and on and on~ ... It's actually not a very long thread. That is probably for the best.)
BUT I WAS NOT IN AL ZAHBI FOR BESIEGED! NO! After we docked, I ran across town! In a very, very zigzag line, because Al Zahbi is kind of a maze when you don't remember where all the stairs and open doors are. (And I was temporarily distracted by the Linkshell chat while I had the autorun on, which is always a dangerous combination. WAIT WHERE DID I RUN TO WHILE I WASN'T LOOKING? But they mentioned Unicron! - Someone has named their character such. He actually was the leader of my brother's Linkshell, before the shell was broken. - So of course that required a call to Run Away to the ships! And then we tried to remember how to spell the Universal Greeting.)
So yeah, though! I made it to Nashmau! (I met a penguin on the boat! He was green.) I talked with Fhe Maksojha (she is also a Mithra, though, er, she's one of the NPCs, not a "real person"), who is adorable, and who then sent me off to my certain death. Stupid woman needing her son and me having to go find him. Also, she was loud and pulled Fhe's tail, and that's mean! AND THEN I WENT INTO CAEDARVA AND WATCHED OTHER PEOPLE KILL THINGS!
(You know what is totally embarrassing? The entire time this expansion's been out? I didn't realize until TODAY that it's Caedarva MIRE and not MINE. I didn't even notice when I zoned in! It wasn't until I looked around and went, "This looks completely un-mine-like!" that it occurred to me that IT IS A MIRE NOT A MINE. Mortifying!)
Oh, speaking of the Mercenary thing, I actually went and got that after running around in the Mire with Aniko and her boyfriend/in-game husband. I had to deliver a supplies package to a staging point. SO I DID.
(NPC) Nareema: I, Nareema, will carry out the Empress' orders through fire, ice, and storm! Oh... welcome to the Azouph Isle staging point. You got something you want to say to me?
Hisime: *shows supplies package*
(Nareema's face lights up!)
Nareema: Oh! A supplies package! How did you get this? It's magnificent... Look at how it gleams... This scent makes me feel so fresh and pure!
Nareema: This is such a precious item! Thank you so much!
I LOVE THIS GAME.
So then I was all... signing my name and stuff. "'I vow... Through rain and through wind, Running not from storms of arrows, and fearing not blasts of magic... To defend in times of beastmen attacks...'
Uh...let's see here... 'In sickness and in health... Through curses and petrification... I pledge myself to Salaheem's Sentinels... for all eternity.'"
I LOVE THIS GAME SO MUCH! EVEN WHEN THE NPCS ARE SCARING ME! ♥!
Naja was real pleased with herself for writing that one up, you could tell.
...Then she yelled at me lots. ;_____;
BUT IT'S OKAY! I don't mind, Naja! You didn't make fun of my name like so many other crazy people do! Also, you're a Mithra, which is like +1 million awesomeness points.
ALSO OTHER THINGS I LOVE: the details they put everything! Everything is so pretty!
Tomorrow after work I think I will do other things! LIKE HOMEWORK, JECCA?
Well, yes, like that, too.
LIKE LEAVING COMMENTS ON EVERYTHING LIKE YOU KEEP MEANING TO DO?
Yes! If I can finish putting my thoughts together!
LIKE CLEANING AND TAKING CARE OF THE DOG AND MAKING FOOD?
...S-shut up, responsibility!
Also, today my conversations over AIM with my brother included this:
[19:48] THE BROTHER: ... i just heard clarkson singing karaoke
[19:49] THE BROTHER: it was the most terrible thing ever
I laughed.
