Life was being too intimidating. I needed something not intimidating.
I am having a surprising amount of fun! It's not as frustrating, because when you blow up, instead of having to restart completely, you just watch yourself explode in slow-motion and then you're dropped back onto the track approximately where you left it. There's a few seconds delay, so everyone can pass you, and it is a bit annoying when Ashelin hits you dead-on three or four times in a row (no one else does that! It's just her. She is a bloodthirsty lunatic, but it's okay, because I like her, anyway), but there's almost limitless boost supplies and the weapons (if you can remember to pick up and use them) really help.
After three games of speed races in which you're unable to defend yourself, it's a bit nice to, when someone's missiles lock on to you, be able to just deflect the things. Or to use the super-powered peace maker to wipe everyone between you and the front of the group. And everyone respawns! It's not even like you're actually exploding anyone! (And, haha, sometimes the others will mock you or apologize after blowing you up.) And they even target other people! You're not the only person being attacked, either, so sometimes the people in front will kill each other off and you can just fly past as they all respawn.
Plus there are different types of races. Circuit races are the only ones (that I've encountered so far) are the only ones where you actually have to stay ahead of everyone and they're only two laps long. SURE, THEY'RE REALLY LONG LAPS, BUT IT'S ONLY TWO. And if you really can't finish one at the moment, you can quit and do a different race.
It helps, too, that they aren't zoomers, so you don't explode every time you even think of taking a turn wrong. ... Now, of course, I'm still only on the first of the four levels, so it's got a good chance of becoming much harder, but for now it's really not so bad.
... and, as if you couldn't tell somehow, I draw extreme amusement from Torn just... failing. At everything. And being D:! D:! D:! all over the place, even if it is a bit different from his attitudes in the other games (I'm currently able to dismiss the slightly strange behavior of everyone on the basis of them all being poisoned and dying).
..... OH WAIT LET ME WRITE ANOTHER PARAGRAPH OR THREE. Short answer: Yes! I am enjoying it! *shuts up now*
